I always subscribed to the theory that Sand was some kind of ambitious but terrible attempt to reimagine Dune without the like, icky colonial bits; because that’s the kind of madness I would embark upon.

Apparently, that was giving her too much credit.

On the other hand.

Imagine making a really personal play, about your own struggle to escape from a trap you’re currently in; and thinking that the play’s success will be the thing that frees you.

And then having the play absolutely bomb.

Like, obviously, that would be setting yourself up to fail, and Willa is in a hell of her own making; but being the architect of your own misfortunes doesn’t make it hurt any less.
