You Break Their____*Part 1
Harry - Ron - Hermione - Draco - Fred
While trying to do your potions homework you added the wrong ingredient and bam! The cauldron started smoking and now the mix is stuck like sludge to the cauldron. By the time you cleaned the sludge off, you would have no time because of how long the potion took to brew.
"Harry," you drew out your words, putting your arms over your boyfriend who was sitting on the sofa in the common room. Harry paused his conversation and leant his head to see you, "I need a favour,"
Harry looked at you quizzically as you stepped around the sofa and sat in his lap, "What?" He asked, somewhat hesitant.
"Can I borrow your caldron?"
His face scrunched in confusion "Sure but why?"
I sighed "Remember that potion project?" he nodded, "I kinda messed up a little and its covered in goop. I don't have time to clean it,"
This didn't reassure him much. "You can borrow it," Harry said, "But I want it back clean. Do you need help?"
"Nope. I'll be fine," I said too which he raised an eyebrow "Promise. I know what I'm doing now. thank you!"
The mixing went fine, and you just had to leave it to brew overnight. Sure, you were cutting it close to class, but it'd be fine. All you had to do was wake up at 7 to do a quick spell and take a vial.
After a nice peaceful night of weird dreams, you were awoken gently. Well not quite. It was a massive bang that woke you up. Jumping out of bed, you looked at the cauldron which was now in pieces and smoking. Panting, you turned to your roommate, "What time is it?"
"Half 7," They said, still shell shocked from the massive bang, "What was that?" Before you had time to answer sparks started coming from the cauldron along with a horrid smell, "On second thought lets get out of here. That smoke can't be good,"
Without time to think you had to open a window and grab your school stuff and leave the dorm. Unluckily your potion had woke up the people in the next dorm, but they were nice enough to let you get ready in there.
That morning you avoided sitting with your boyfriend, scared to admit you'd broke it. however, you knew you had potions together last. During your lunch, you returned to the dorm to see the cauldron scattered across the room. The smoke was gone, and you had to pick up the debris.
You walked into the great hall with a bag full of pieces of the cauldron. Time to face the music.
Sitting across from Harry you gave a sorry smile. He looked up from his lunch, "What did you do?"
You cleared your throat and passed the bag over, "I need to return this,"
Harry took the bag which caught Ron and Hermione's attentional the three peered in, "How the fuck did you break this?" he asked, shocked.
"Um well you see I kinda overslept. But hey you didn't say anything about it being in one piece," I said. Harry gave me his classic 'I'm so done with this' look. "Sorry," I mumbled
He sighed, "Its okay. I mean your gonna get yelled at by Snape so," he shrugged.
"Oh, I'm mad," he said causing me to deflate more, "but I can get another. You, however, are paying me back."
"I'll get the money as soon as possible," I said.
Harry smirked, "Who said anything about money?"
This didn't click for me or Hermione for a second, but Ron's loud groan made Hermione realise, "Ew!"
Ron wasn't the best at potions but still when the homework was given out Hermione was persistent that he had to do it himself, not letting you or herself help him. Ron was forced to try again and again, spending hours trying to do it. when he'd finally done it, he was so relieved.
He came down vial in hand, to the Gryffindor common room, giving Hermione the vial. "Done," he said, clearly relieved as he sunk into an armchair.
Hermione inspected it, "Seems right. Well done Ron. Now, don't you feel proud you did it all by yourself?" She asked. Ron glared and snatched the vial back. "Harry and I were going to go to the great hall. Wanna come?"
"Sure," he said, forcing himself out the chair, "But can we swing by potions? I want to hand it in before I break it,"
Harry and Hermione looked shocked. Harry was the first to speak "You want to hand in homework early? What happened to you?"
Ron rolled his eyes "Dunno. breathed in too much smoke,"
Alas, the trio began their journey to potions. Ron didn't want to risk his chances so held it in his hands, not trusting putting it in his pocket. Since it was a Saturday the corridors were pretty empty. This made it easy for you to spot the ginger you called your boyfriend. As quietly and quickly as you could you caught up to them. Ron always tried to scare you, so you replayed the favour, "Boo!" You yelled, throwing your arms over his shoulders.
"Ah!" he yelled, looking at the ground when you heard something crack. Ron turned to you, face red. Harry and Hermione both looked shocked, mouths agape, "What the hell was that for?!" he yelled.
You felt yourself shrink into yourself, "You do it all the time," you mumbled.
This only made him angry "Look what you did!" he pointed at the smashed glass on the floor, liquid staining the ground "That was my potions homework,"
"Oh, Ron I'm so sorry," you told him, "I didn't realise,"
"Oh, cause sorry's gonna fix it," he retorted.
Hermione put a hand on his shoulder, "Calm down. (Y/N) didn't mean it,"
Ron looked at you and saw you fold your arms, hugging yourself, and looking down, "Its alright(Y/N)," he said, defeated, "I'll make another. I didn't mean to yell,"
"It's fine. It's my fault," I mumbled.
With a slight sigh, Ron pulled me into a hug, "You didn't know. I suppose you can help me with a new one?"
Hermione went to protest but we all shot her a look. I looked at Ron, "Of course,"
"So much for turning it in early,"
I hadn't read many muggle books so Hermione would offer to lend me them with strict instructions. No crumbs, no liquids, don't leave it by a cauldron, no lending it to other people, and don't dare break the spine. I'd always respected her rules and was very careful with her books.
My girlfriend had just been sent a new copy of the girl with all the gifts, a book we'd both been wanting to read; however, she was in the middle of another book. Since she wouldn't get around to reading it I was allowed to read it before her which was an honour. She was fiercely protective of her books.
As I was reading the book I kept getting more and more into it, not being able to put it down for hours. The book was devoured within a few days if that. When I closed the book, satisfied yet craving more, I looked over the book. I knew I had taken good care of it, but a deep pit formed in my stomach when I saw the spin.
While reading the book I hadn't realised but I had accidentally cracked the spine a couple times. And they were noticeable. Hermione was sitting across from me at the table in the great hall, so I quickly stuffed it in my bag, "Everything alright?" she asked.
"Yup," I answered quickly, "Just remembered I forgot to owl my parents back," and with that I rushed out the hall, beelining for the owlery.
I quickly scribbled a letter to my parents, asking them to get a new copy of the book and sending some of my own money with it. only issue was they were both wizards, but I had hope.
The next couple of days I was able to avoid any questions until Hermione finished her book.
"Hey, are you almost done with that other book?" she asked.
"uh yeah almost. Just got a bit busy you know?" I stammered.
"Cool. Just let me know when you're done. I really want to read it," Hermione said like it was no big deal, but my heart was pounding.
Another couple day passed, and she was getting a little bit annoyed. One dreary Monday morning when the owls came in a letter and parcel dropped down in front of me. in my sleep-deprived state, I just tore it open and it was the book. "Why'd you get a copy of that book?" Hermione asked.
"Uh..."I tried to think of a reason, but I was in a corner. I sighed, "I kinda broke the spine on the other book," I mumbled, handing her the book.
Hermione took the book but kept looking at me, eyebrows raised, "What?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I got you a new one though"
Draco's father wasn't the most accepting of our relationship. Rather they normally discouraged it. My family wasn't one of the sacred 28 and neither of my parents worked in the ministry. The only thing on our side was Narcissa actually liked me and was happy Draco had someone.
This meant when I visited him we kept out of the way of his father. Luckily his garden was huge and next to a large forest because he was rich. Draco had kept his old 'useless' brooms as he saw them despite them all being Nimbuses.
When Draco insisted he was the best at quidditch I knew I had to take him down a peg. "Don't worry, I'll go easy on you," he told me.
I smirked "Don't worry about me,"
Draco chuckled before throwing the Quaffle in the air. It wasn't really quidditch since we were only using the quaffle to score. Draco's family had also installed quidditch hoops at either end of his guardian.
The first point went to Draco as you tried to get used to this broom. Well, that's what I said anyway. I got second though. Draco couldn't let it slide, "That was just luck!" he called though smiling.
"Then I'm about to get really lucky!" I yelled back.
Next point me, then Draco, then Draco, then Draco again, and now my pride was starting to slip. It was 4:2 in his favour. "Sure, you don't want to give up?" he called.
"Never!" I yelled. Draco rolled his eyes and tossed the quaffle in the air. At least he was a gentleman and let me get it.
When I tossed it, it was about to go in when he caught it and began zooming to the other end. I charged after him, not wanting him to get another point. But when he was about to toss it I wasn't close enough when I thought of something. Quickly wrapping my legs around the broom, I twisted so I was upside down, "Draco!" I yelled despite knowing I could easily get back up.
Draco glanced back and did a double tack before flying to my side. As he was flying he let go of the quaffle, so I quickly flipped back and caught it before zooming to the hoops at my side. I heard Draco swear as he rushed to catch me.
Since Draco was gaining on me and I wasn't too far away I got ready to throw, taking my hands off the broom to throw with two hands. I'd put so much force into my throw that I almost lost my balance.
As I am steadying myself I heard a loud crash. The quaffle had gone straight through the window. I turned to look to Draco who was whiter than normal and motions me to go down quickly. We managed to get on the ground, and I ran to stand against the wall, hoping no one would look down when I heard someone scream "Draco!"
He turned to me, fear across his face, "Follow me," he grabbed my arm and led me to his broom shed, running as fast as we could. Draco opened the door and pushed me inside, "Hide in here. I'll tell father you went home,"
"He'll get mad at you. I'll explain and-"
"No," Draco cut me off, "I'm not giving him an excuse to say about you. Wait here," He pecked my lips and shut the door.
I was about to open the door when I heard his father "Well!? Explain?! Where is that little-"
"(Y/N) went home 20 minutes ago," Draco cut him off. I'd pressed my ear against the door to hear them. "I broke the window,"
"Really? "He asked and I could hear his doubt, "Well then no quidditch for a month. Give me your broom,"
A strange feeling weighed in my gut. Without thinking I rushed to the far back corner, crouching amongst some gardening stuff and pulling a tarp over myself. Just as I was pulling the tarp over I heard Draco "Wait!" then muffled voices.
Light filled the shed and I held my breath. I heard shuffling but kept quiet. "See? Nothing in here," Draco said, and I could hear the relief in his voice.
His father hummed in disapproval "Well I'll be locking this place until you can play again. And don't even think of opening it or an alarm will go off. Remember no magic out of school," Lucius said.
I could feel the air turn stale and my eyes went wide. The door shut soon after and I was back in darkness. I waited, crouched for a few minutes before slowly coming out of my hiding spot. Thank god for muggle technology, I thought as I pulled my phone out and used the flashlight. I didn't even dare touch the door.
Draco had a secret muggle phone I'd gave him for emergencies, so he texts me 'Sit tight' I'll figure something out'. With a groan, I sat down. Better make me comfortable.
I text my parents I would be home late and waited it out. Hours passed and my phone was started to die. I'd lost all hope when I heard rustling outside.
I was about to hide when the door opened and I was face to face with Narcissa, wand in hand.
She looked at me emotionless for a couple seconds before checking over her shoulder. "Draco told me. can you fly home?" She asked. I was so nervous I just nodded "Good. Grab a broom. Quick before Lucius gets out the shower."
I did as I was told, and she ushered me out. The sun was starting to set, and there was a chill in the air. She shrugged off her cardigan and handed it to me, "I can't," I told her trying to hand it back.
"Take it. I won't have you freeze to death. Sorry I took so long but you need to go now," She said, pushing it into my hands. I quickly threw it on and mounted the broom, "Have a safe journey. And don't worry about the window. Accidents happen,"
During summer I would get bored but with wizarding travel, I was able to just hop into a fireplace and go to my boyfriends. Often during the summer, I would just drop by and hang out.
Molly had gotten used to it and got over us going into his room with the door shut since the last time she peaked in we weren't making out or doing other things, but Fred was trying to braid my hair.
I stepped out the fireplace and smiled at Molly, dusting myself off, "Hello dear. He's just popped to the shops if you want to wait in his room. I'm just about to pop lunch on, would you like some,"
"Yes please." I smiled at her and hiked up the old wooden stairs. Without magic, they would've caved in a long time ago.
The twin's room was always messy, so it wasn't a surprise when I walked in. Molly had rubbed off on me, so I sighed when I saw the mess and decided to give a light clean. It was easy enough to grab their dirty clothes and fling them in the basket but then I saw their 'workstation'. All their projects were strewn across a table that had been through wars.
The only thing that was contained was their stash of pranks which was in an old wooden box. The marked the box fragile with several warnings not to touch it. I didn't want to mess with that.
Instead, I began trying to tidy their workstation. And by tidy I mean put the books back on the shelve and have a nosy at what they were doing.
I picked up a small metal ball and rolled it about in my palm. It looked innocent enough. "Hey!" I looked over my shoulder with a smile when I heard Fred. His face, however, dropped, "Put that down!" it was too late.
No sooner had he said it than it began sizzling and smoke started coming out it. I dropped it and it began sparking before going off in a mini-explosion followed by more smoke. The smoke was repulsive, and I stepped back, coughing and waving my hand in front of myself when I tripped.
I managed to land in the worse way and fall against the crate, knocking it. it was about to tip over when Fred ran over and steadied it before checking if I was okay. He was about to say something when we heard some rustling behind us. We glanced behind us to see the crate shaking.
At that moment I thought I saw death. Fred grabbed my arm and hauled me up, flinging me on his bed, laying down half on top of me, "Cover your head!" He said. I'd barely put a pillow over my heard when we heard the first explosion. It was followed in quick succession by some pop's bangs and fizzes. Whenever a loud bang went off I flinched.
I don't know what, but some stuff landed on us and I know something had broken. When the noises stopped we peaked out from under the pillows. My mouth fell open when I heard people running up the stairs.
Fred looked like was going to cry. The crate was none existent and there was just some colourful melted plastic and soot where it had been. Not to mention the smoke that made me cough more.
"What happened!?" Our heads snapped to see Mrs. Weasley and George in the doorway. Molly ran to our sides to check us over while George ran to where the crate had been, "Are you okay?"
"No, no, no!" George yelled, sinking to his knees "What the hell happened?"
"Language," Molly hissed, "But what the hell happened!?" she turned to us.
Fred and I shared a look and I sighed, "I kinda set off a mini exploitation and tripped." I mumbled.
Molly looked understanding but George looked furious "Do you realise how much work we put into that?!" He yelled "The time, effort, money?! All gone!"
I looked down, "I'm sorry," I mumbled.
Fred sighed "It's alright," he said but I could tell it wasn't. before I could do anything he stood up, "Mum we'll clean it up." He sounded defeated. Molly went to say something, but Fred cut her off "Please?"
She sighed "Okay. No more explosions though. Lunch will be 15 minutes," and with that Molly walked out.
Fred and George looked at me and I started tearing up "I am so sorry. I am. I'll do anything to help. I-I've got some money saved," I began rambling.
Fred sighed and rubbed his forehead, "It's fine. We'll...fix it," he sounded so exasperated, "Can you help clean it up?"
I nodded and stood from the bed. Fred grabbed some gloves from his drawers and tossed a pair to me and George before getting himself a pair. "Try not to breath it in," George said, and I nodded. Then it was just awkward silence as we began to pick up the remains of whatever project this was and bin it.
There wasn't much left, so it only took a few minutes to pick it up. "I'll get the broom for the soot after lunch," George said before sitting on his bed. Fred nodded and copied, flopping down onto his own bed.
I looked in-between the two defeated boys. There wasn't long left before we went back to Hogwarts so they wouldn't have time to redo it. "Guys I'm so sorry,"
"It was an accident," George said.
"I know but I am," I insisted, "I'll make it up to you. You name it and I'll do it,!
This caught their attention, "Anything?" they asked in sync.
I grimaced, "Anything" I confirmed.
They nodded and stood up, "Welcome to the business," they grabbed one of my hands each and shook it.
"You can help without pranks," George said.
"We'll set them up and wait in plain view,"
"And they'll never suspect you,"
I looked in between them "It's creepy when you do that," I said, crossing my arms. They asked me before, but I always said no, afraid to be caught. "Fine," I sighed.
