hey!! I just discovered your blog and I absolutely love what you're doing here. its nice to see shared experiences with other enbies!! I was wondering how the name changing process was going, since that's something I myself would like to pursue. if you feel comfortable saying where you're doing it and local governments and all that, but if not I'm just curious about the process in general. plus I'm so rooting for you!!!

Hey, friend! Due to some things that have been going on for me, it’s been unfortunately a bit slow. The comic I made about how many steps there are wasn’t that much of an exaggeration, so I often feel overwhelmed by it, but it’s something I’m working on. I’d rather not specify exactly where I live/where I’m doing this, which I hope you understand. The process seems to mostly be filling out what feels like eight million very confusing forms that I’m hoping to get help with soon. I also unfortunately live in a pretty conservative area, so I’m not sure if it’s different/easier somewhere else.

I have never been asked this before but yes he does! It’s harder to notice cause he walks on all fours, but yes, his back legs hurt even in dragon form!

I saw that the automatons don’t totally understand humans, especially Patton and the way humans heal, and i’m imagining Thomas getting a nasty cut in his workshop and Patton Trying Very Hard to help, but only in ways he knows how, which won’t work for Thomas. Man, how sad would that make him?? That he can only fix some of the people he cares about

It’s more frustrating than sad. He tries very hard to be like wait what do you need why are you leaking do I need to fix a hole? Do screwdrivers wok on humans?

Thomas cries and he thinks he’s leaking fluids.

I ADORE your steampunk au!! What gives some automatons souls and not others?? Like how did the five as well as Remy and Emile get souls. Were they there when they first got made and were turned on, or were they like “gained”???

Aha this is the question I have been waiting for! There’s two ways! The first way is Alchemy where alchemists can tie a soul to an Automaton. This is what a lot of people use for their loved little ones who are sick and dying- they will bind a child’s soul to an Automaton and it is an exceptionally sacred ritual. Note- it is only legally allowed for this to happen to children who are dying because they have not had a chance to live their lives. All other alchemic-soul-tying is illegal. 

The second way is natural. Souls are drawn to Automatons that were created with a lot of love- the love that was put into creating the Automaton binds with a soul and causes it to come “alive”. Interestingly, this only happens to Automatons created by individual makers as opposed to factory-made automatons. 

Atticus’ Automatons were technically given souls illegally but they don’t know that! They thought he loved them enough for souls to attach to them but in reality he hired an alchemist to soulbind them illegally. 

Likewise, this is also why the Remakes of them are soulless- he didn’t want to have to deal with the emotions and unpredictability of soulbound Automatons.
