Mere moments (okay, maybe a full calendar day) after Rootbound went up on Netgalley, I found out about this gorgeous B&N edition, and just about screamed with delight. Ya girl has not had a B&N special edition for her books before and this one is just perfection. From the official description:
"This Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition features an exclusive shimmering jacket printed over foil, a unique case, and printed endpapers and edges, plus a bonus Rootbound quiz and discussion guide!"
Bonkers.
The team at Disney absolutely hit this out of the park, and we have Scott Piehl, Gegham Vardanyan, and Noor Sofi to thank for putting together such a gorgeous book. ROOTBOUND will be out July 28, so there’s still plenty of time to get your preorders in!
Rootbound: A Tangled Novel
By Margaret Owen @what-eats-owls
Rapunzel knows nothing about her neighboring kingdom, Astera – and not just because she only left her tower a month ago. The famously reclusive island has limited its contact with outsiders for decades. So when a suspicious invitation arrives welcoming Rapunzel to the Asteran princess’s coming of age ceremony, and offering her a chance to be useful for the first time since she lost her healing powers, Rapunzel accepts – and unwittingly plunges herself and her companion, Eugene, into a tangled knot of political intrigue and magical secrets. Eugene is just happy to get one last adventure with Rapunzel before his criminal background catches up with him and prevents their happy ending. Yet as they’re drawn further into the country’s problems, they uncover truths about Eugene’s parentage that point to deeper unrest in Astera, and suddenly the fate of their own kingdom, not just their personal dreams, is at stake. Thrust into a power struggle between Astera’s beloved princess, Verette, its domineering king, Enver, and a mysterious secret society, Rapunzel and Eugene race to protect their home from an unsettlingly familiar threat and discover that the past can either hold them back, or help them blossom. A cunning king. An devious princess. Best. Week. Ever.

I may do an analysis on the Rootbound cover this week because my god this is BEAUTIFUL!
hi there! what's your take on the tangled novel that's coming out soon? I vaguely know that it contradicts the show you love. should I tag it so that you can block it, or are you okay with it?
Aw thank you for asking! I'm actually tentatively looking forward to it!
I am not a hard and fast canon truther (whether this fandom or any) and I love retellings and AUs in general so I'm not opposed to anything that contradicts the series. And I don't expect anything that isn't explicitly a series tie-in to even reference the series. As it didn't perform super well and has been over for several years now I would genuinely be surprised if anything new were to come out related to it. And then while I love the show, it is soooo far from perfect and I pretend several things that happen in canon actually didn't, so xD
Some of the official disney novels have been hit or miss for me (hence the tentative part!) but I also have loved everything I've read by Margaret Owen so I am curious to see!
TLDR, I don't mind seeing it but it is very kind of you to check! <3 here's hoping we both enjoy it! :D
I wasn't sure what to do when I'm referring to the episode as a whole
