OOC NOTES:
I was so blown away by the quality of the writing this time round. To those who’re playing a senior character, that was basically the final exam for your character(s). All the learnings were absolutely spot on; I couldn’t be prouder of what you all have achieved so far. It was an absolute joy to read and grade them. So well done guys!
N/As were given to those without partners/on hiatus during exam time/just returned from hiatus/requested for with valid reasons. Kindly let me know if I’ve missed out anything or anyone, thank you!
Our exam consisted of transporting a moderately heavy box to the museum by 6pm. Along the way we were accosted by three men who threatened us with the intention of taking our box, something neither of us were willing to give up very easily. In order to protect what we were tasked with delivering we evaded the men, who gave chase, but were eventually lost due to some clever maneuvering. Luckily we were able to deliver the box in time, which although in retrospect wasn't the true point of the exam, did turn out to be a point of pride for us.
Walking into this exam neither of us knew what to expect, but in coming out of it we've learned several things about each other and about ourselves, both in small personal ways to a broader scope. Here are a few of our key learnings.
First and foremost was trust. Both of us are lucky in that we already had a relationship with each other going into this exam. That provided us with a basis of trust and respect for each other before ever facing any sort of controversy. However, we discovered that it's easy to trust someone in relatively safe day to day to day life. It's another matter entirely when you find yourself in a dangerous predicament in an unpredictable circumstance. Often in our relationship we have to trust each other to communicate openly so that our scenes are always safe and consensual, and so we can personally grow together. It's always been a vital part of our dynamic together, but we found it even more critical during the exam.
Joey, as the submissive, is used to putting his trust in his Dominant in order to hand over control of his mind and body. However, these instances have always been a very personal one on one experience between the both of us. In that car with three large men threatening us, the trust given was even greater. Ryan had no control over the three men, and could not control the degree to which things would escalate. I had to trust that he would still make the right call regardless of the things that were out of his control. Even when what he did seemed risky, I had to trust that he was looking out for our best interest and wouldn't do something that would put our lives in danger.
Ryan, as a Dominant, is used to being in control over an entire situation. When we play out scenes, I have full control over what happens, and can stop it at any time if I think things have gone too far. There wasn't any stopping this. It was a matter of life or death that didn't contain an off switch. Of course that meant I had to trust Joey, to look after our box and to follow my commands to the letter. More than that I had to trust myself and my instinct to be right. I didn't believe the men would truly hurt us and in the end they didn't. I understand logic and reasoning, but there's something intuitive in dealing with people that I had to understand.
That easily brings us into the next thing we learned, responsibility and protecting what's yours. Between the two of us, Joey has always been the most responsible. Not to say Ryan isn't, but being class vice-president on top of commitments to soccer and art club, and social and personal obligations prove that he's able to adequately balance his responsibilities while still being able to provide each of them the level of commitment and care they deserve. Ryan, on the other hand, hasn't taken on as much but still dedicates care and time to what he has. That being said, as the events of the exam unfolded, we both had to step up and take responsibility in ways we weren't the most familiar with.
Ryan, as the Dominant, naturally took charge of the situation, which was common for me. Even more so, I had to take care of my submissive, again something I know how to do quite well, just never in this manner. Normally, when I read my submissive to see how he is coping, I look for signs of physical and emotional distress, then think of ways to alleviate it. In this situation I knew he was distressed due to fear and anxiety built around what was happening. I had to focus on keeping him calm and safe, however in trying to keep him safe I had to divide my attention instead of focusing it entirely on him as I was used to. I was focused on the road, the car, the men following us, and the package we were delivering, all of which were vital to me at the time. None more so than the submissive in my passenger seat. There was nothing more precious to me in that moment than my submissive and it was that sense of responsibility and protection over him that motivated me as I prioritized and multitasked during our escape.
Joey, as the submissive, had to take a step back and focus on what Ryan could not. In this situation, my focus was on protecting the box as Ryan maneuvered us through a maze of streets and highways. It was also on keeping myself in check, focusing on staying calm and composed so that I would be a help and not a deterrent to my Dominant. Despite being afraid of what was happening, I stepped up so that I could stay calm, protect the package, and help my Dominant navigate the streets as we escaped the men chasing us. Instead of spreading myself thin to manage many things, it was about focus, drawing myself in so that I could be the most useful.
Finally, we both also learned about communication and obedience. As mentioned earlier, we both do a fair share of communicating with each other. This communication has usually been in the form of free and open discussion, something we both sit down and talk through so that we can understand each other fully. However, we learned that not all communication is that easy. In the midst of a fast paced crisis like the one we were facing, we didn't have time to sit and talk through a plan. Everything happened in quick succession, which gave us little time to talk to each other. While this does go back to trust, as he had to trust the other to do the right thing and stay calm, it did not mean there was no effort put forth to get to that place.
Ryan, as the Dominant, had to take control of the situation and trust in Joey, but I also had to communicate with him. This went beyond giving him orders, which I did issue to keep both of us on task during a high pressure situation. This also meant calming him down, listening to him when he had something to say, and explaining to him what I needed him to do. All of this having to be done quickly and effectively due to our precarious situation. It meant choosing my words carefully, expressing myself clearly and doing so in a limited amount of time while remaining calm and collected myself so as not to startle my submissive or lose control of the situation. It was a task that required I think on my feet, but also was contingent on the understanding Joey and I already have with each other. As mentioned before, we're lucky in that we know each other and are used to speaking with each other. It made it easier to communicate in a tricky situation without getting caught in misunderstandings which would have been critically detrimental in the situation.
Joey, as the submissive, had to practice obedience. Tying hand in hand with trust and responsibility over myself, I also had to be incredibly obedient for my Dominant. That meant following orders without question, but also listening to everything Ryan said and anticipating what he would need. It meant paying attention to my Dominant carefully and being able to read his verbal and physical cues and act accordingly to what he wanted. No more, no less, because while I couldn't read his mind I had to trust he knew what he was doing and follow him to the letter. While of course this was scary, it was something I knew I could do and did do, never once doubting my Dominant or myself, and rightfully so.
Overall, the experience was frightening and stressful, but in the end we managed to grow together as a couple, improve upon our skills as a Dominant and a submissive, and accomplish something that we both feel proud we were able to get through. It was an unusual but not at all unrewarding experience.
Students: Aerolyn Pearce and Danielle Delaney ( danidelaney )
Task: A
For this exam, the two of us chose to be involved in Task A. Within this task, we were given a parcel in which we had to bring to the Cincinnati Museum Center before 6pm. We were given a car and were allowed to leave the campus any time after curfew ended, but had to return before curfew was set in place that night. The gift box had to be completely wrapped and perfectly intact for our job to have been completed successfully. The contents within the gift box were of no importance to us, we simply had to complete the job that was given to us. At first glance, this task seems like an easy one to complete and offers no reason for one to worry about the exam whatsoever.
The beginning of the exam was pretty simple and made it out to seem as though the exam would work quickly and efficiently. We picked up the package and the car early that morning and then got into the car and began our drive. We stopped for breakfast and everything went smoothly. The package was safe and we were enjoying our time together off campus. We got back into the car and drove for a little while before deciding that we should stop for gas. It was then that things seemingly went downhill. We both got out of the car, paying little attention to our surroundings as we were pretty focused on our own conversation. It was then that the three men came into the picture. One grabbed Aerolyn and one grabbed Danielle, and the other simply surveyed the area. We were both incapable of getting away from the men and they threatened to kill Danielle if either of us screamed or moved too much. They said that they simply wanted the package and if we gave it to them they would leave a and we wouldn’t be harmed. Of course, we allowed them to take the package and after we gained our bearings we went to the police and explained what happened. In the end, the package wasn’t delivered. It was a relief to find out that the men had been part of the exam, but it was quite frightening at the time.
1) The first key learning revolves around the responsibility of the Dominant and the submissive. In any type of intimate relationship there is a responsibility to the other person through their safety, their health, and their well-being in all aspects, including work or school. Therefore in this exam there was a responsibility for the two of us to work together to ensure that we both got a good grade. In that, we had to make sure that the both of us were on track with the plan for the day. That changed when the men came into play, as the responsibility of ensuring the other person’s safety became something that had to be addressed as well. As a Dominant, my responsibility is to take care of my submissive, despite the consequences that may occur through my actions.
2) Priorities are the second key point of learning within the exam. The job was to bring the package to the Museum and therefore that was what our focus should have been on throughout the day. While there may have been moments where we became distracted by other things, it was always important to keep in mind the job that we actually had to completely. However, once the men came into the picture it would only make sense for the priorities to change. Our job was to take the package to the Museum, however our job as people is to ensure that we are healthy and safe. Therefore, had our main focus been on the package, we would have been ignoring the basic instincts and the priority of staying safe and alive.
3) While we both had gone into this exam with every intention on succeeding in our task, what felt like a very real possibility that our safety could be compromised trumped everything else. Suddenly the idea of successfully bringing a package to the location didn't seem as important. Together we were placed in a real life situation where we had to ask ourselves- do we fight our gut feeling to surrender the package and stay safe, or do we fight for something and possibly get hurt in the process? We had no way of knowing if the men were a real threat or not, so we chose our own safety over a grade. Here at Roselle, we are taught how to protect ourselves during scenes. We have hard and soft limits for a reason, and often times those limits are what keep us safe both mentally and physically. One of my hardest limits as a submissive is endangering my own safety. When with my Dominant, there is only one thing that triumphs over that limit, and that is her safety. So when confronted by the men, we were put into a real life situation where we could either compromise limits and risk injury, or choose the likely less academically gratifying path. This task made me realize that nothing is more important than the safety of my Dominant or myself. We are taught here to know what we can handle, and on that day it became very clear that neither of us could handle the endangered safety of the other.
Exam report - Our task was to deliver a box from the Academy to the Cincinnati Museum Center. We planned to set off mid morning so we had plenty of time to safely reach the destination and return to campus before the Submissive curfew.
On route we had to stop for gas and while in the shop Katarina asked to use the bathroom. As she left the shop a group of three men grabbed her and held a knife to her throat. They told her that she would not be harmed as long as they got the box. The cashier drew my attention to the scene which she had seen through the window.
I immediately spotted the knife and asked her to call the police while I went out to talk to the group. They made their demands clear immediately but it was also evident that Katarina was extremely frightened. My priority was my submissive’s safety and ensuring she did not do anything which might cause the group to hurt her. Therefore calming Katarina was the first thing I did by having her focus on my voice and words. I then spoke simply to the group, asking them questions and keeping them occupied until the police arrived a short time later.
We then delivered the box and returned to school as quickly as possible.
Key Learning Points
Trust – Trust between the dominant and submissive is very important at all times but in this situation it was essential.
Although the incident was extremely frightening knowing that Shane was there and would do everything she could to help me was a relief. I trusted her instructions and not only her words but her body language told me she was in control and that I should stay calm.
Obedience – The use of rules in a relationship ensures everyone understands their role. In this exam having an obedient submissive was vital to keep her safe.
The rules that I had for the day were clear and easy to follow. 1) I was to stay with my dominant unless I was given express permission to go somewhere else. 2)To follow orders quickly and without argument. 3) To be polite and respectful to everyone I came in contact with. During the task I did obey the rules and having been given permission to leave for the bathroom I was grabbed by the gang. As soon as Shane came out and began a calm conversation with the men it was easier for me to relax as I could feel them engaging in a polite discussion rather than a shouting match. While I said very little during the whole incident Shane modelled the behaviour she expected, even in very difficult circumstances. She also repeatedly ordered me to focus on her and her voice rather than the knife and this helped me to stay calm looking at her rather than thinking about what could potentially happen.
Responsibility – There are different elements of responsibility demonstrated during this exam. The submissive was responsible initially for planning the route and organising supplies for the journey. During the whole trip the dominant was responsible for the submissive’s safety and behaviour.
Although there was not a lot of time to plan for the trip I made sure I organised myself and spoke several times with Shane about things we needed and the best way to travel. I feel the journey was well planned and organised. During the journey Shane was clearly in control and gave me small orders to follow while she was driving. Throughout the whole incident with the gang I knew that Shane would prioritise my safety over anything else and while I was scared I knew she would do her best.
Communication – Communication between dominant and submissive is always important to ensure clear needs and boundaries.
Throughout the exam Shane and I communicated clearly. We explained how we were feeling and once the police had arrived at the garage and we were free to leave we were able to exchange our ideas about how to return to school quickly after dropping off the box. This open communication continued once we were safely back at school through both being able to share our thoughts on what had happened and what we each needed to feel safe and secure again.
Aftercare – Aftercare is vitally important for both the dominant and submissive after any kind of scene to allow mind and body to return to normal.
Upon returning to Shane’s room after the exam we spent a lot of time simply cuddled together. We both needed proof that we were both safe and this provided the most reliable method. It took several days before we felt confident to be apart but Shane continued to frequently check on me both to ensure I was still coping and for her own reassurance.
Roselle Exam 20 Report
Alexander Smythe and Mason Hummel
May 3rd 2015
Despite the unorthodox nature of the exam and the stress it placed on both myself and Alexander at the time, I think that with time to reflect on the situation it has provided an interesting perspective on our relationship and tested our trust in one another. We are both strong-willed and can clash at times - as we did on the day, though it was resolved quickly - but at the end of the day Alexander has my utmost respect as a Dominant and I know that I can trust him to have my best interests in mind without endangering himself. After discussing what we took from the exam as individuals, we came to agree on the three most important aspects.
TRUST
This is the one point that is always stressed, and I know now more than ever that it’s with good reason; trust is essential for a relationship to be successful on any level, especially when you bring a D/s dynamic into the picture. I think it’s unreasonable to expect any two people to always see eye to eye, but what’s more important is the ability to overcome that and work together. I myself am rather selective in who I submit to outside of exams, so my choosing to partner with Alexander alone should show my trust in his capabilities to a degree, but there’s also the fact that he isn’t afraid to be persistent with me and assert himself as a Dominant in situations where he believes it’s appropriate - something that makes me respect him all the more and know when to submit in the most literal sense of the word.
It’s always easier to dominante someone when you’re in the same room as them. You can give clear orders and watch as they are carried out; giving you the chance to correct anything that isn’t being done to specifics. In this exam, I gave Mason orders and separated from him. I was concerned we were being followed and wanted to take him as far from the situation as I could. Mason does ahave a stubborn streak and he wasn’t entirely keen on my being the one to distract who we now know were actors, but as he showed trust in me to guide him, I trusted him to follow the orders I had given him. What we did would not have worked if we didn’t have that trust in one another.
COMFORT
I feel like comfort can sometimes be overlooked when it comes to key criteria for a successful D/s relationship, but in my mind it’s intimately linked with trust - to be comfortable with someone and your relationship with them is to allow boundaries to be tested and expanded, and to know that even when things go wrong you have someone there to support you. Had we been paired up randomly for this exam as with the others this would more than likely been an issue for me, but having Alexander there both in the heat of the moment and afterwards when my anxiety began to flare up was a great help; again, I knew I could trust him to keep me safe, and he knows me well enough by now that I could take the time to process what had happened without worrying about the possibility of sub drop or not getting the kind of aftercare I needed.
Although I am submissive partner in our relationship there is a definite balance in terms of us wanting to protect one another, so it’s also important to me that Alexander has the same level of security that I do and isn’t afraid to ask for what he needs, knowing that I’ll do my best to give it to him - which, linking back to my first point, will hopefully continue to strengthen our trust.
Comfort and care; I think these were two of the most important factors in this exam for both my submissive and I. Mason has submitted to me me often enough outside of exams and I know him well enough to know his tell; when things are starting to overwhelm him. I am also fortunate enough to know what comforts him. In the last leg of our journey to the museum, I didn’t give Mason much time to think about what had happened. I knew he was more shaken up than he would care to admit at first and I also recognised we had a job to do. I evaluated the situation and decided our best course of action was to keep his mind busy. I gave him specific orders to place a call to the police; to report what had happened, to the museum; to assure them we were on route, and to a car service; to arrange our transport home. More than anything, I knew he wouldn’t be comfortable driving back and I knew he craved physical closeness and the car service allowed that. I know Mason is almost as protective of me as I am of him and part of caring for him is allowing him to know I’m okay. Care and comfort for us works in a cycle; as I comfort him I cmfort myself by knowing he’s okay and as he submits, allowing me to comfort him, he takes comfort in every reassurance that I’m okay.
PARTNERSHIP
Even outside of an exam situation, teamwork is another important aspect of relationships regardless of dynamic; compatibility as individuals is one thing, but being able to come together to work through problems whilst still respecting one another is even more important.
When we initially realized that we were being followed and pulled into a gas station we didn’t know if we would be approached while we were still in the car, which added the pressure of time to our decision-making, but when one of us - I believe it was Alexander, but I can’t be entirely sure - came up with the idea of the two of us splitting up we managed to pull together a cohesive plan between us. I expressed some reluctance to have Alexander climbing out of a window and potentially injuring himself at first, but backed down when he made it clear that my job as his submissive was to trust his decision, so from there it was simply a matter of keeping calm and following through with the plan as precisely as we could, though we were still pursued for several miles before the stuntmen gave up.
For me, the relationship between a Dominant and a submissive can best be described as a partnership. It’s not a relationship that works well without each party putting their best foot forward and making every effort in their role. As a Dominant, I need to be abe to rely on my submissive to follow through on orders even if I’m not there to obseve, and my submissive needs to be able to rely on me to make decisions to srve our best interest. In this exam, when it came down to the wire, Mason looked to me and readily accepted his role in our partnership.
I will admit that my stubbornness and protective instincts can negatively impact on my relationship with Alexander at times, but with his help I know it’s something I can work on in order to be a better submissive and hopefully learn that I can’t always protect those I care about, as much as I’d like to.
Below the cut is the full details for the upcoming exam. You may take this as an official announcement from the academy. Thank you!

Please read the below very carefully and keep in mind that these are all OOC knowledge. Please do not take any of these into account when playing because it’s impossible for your character to know the following, at least, not until it happens.
A group of stuntmen (three of them, all hired by the school) will try to hijack your vehicle. You may decide for yourself how they do it. For example, they could be pretending to be hitchhikers, or they might act while you’re in front of a traffic light or a stop street/yield sign. They could also hit your car from behind, or hold one of you hostage while you stop somewhere for a break. They may or may not succeed in the end, but they’re definitely going to try. They’ll make it very clear that they only want the gift box, and not the car or anything else. What happens next is entirely up to you.
Please remember that this is an exam and everything’s set up. They won’t cause any real harm to your characters.
An announcement will be made on Monday morning saying that the previous day's event was staged.
TASK B
#Each pair will be assigned to one/two well-known socialites in the country who’s appearing at the grand opening of the Corinthia Hotel in Columbus, Ohio. Your task: to be their escorts for the grand opening event and keep them happy throughout the night. The event starts at 6PM, so don’t be late. The transportation will be arranged. They’ll bring your characters back to their hotel room at one point during the night and ask/demand for sexual services, simply because they’ve been asked by Roselle to do so. How they’d react upon hearing your character saying no or yes, that’s entirely up to you. Just remember that this is a test and most of the things are staged. Your characters won’t be harmed should they say no.
You may discuss with your partner and decide whether you’d want your characters to be escorting one or two socialites, and what sort of person they are.
An announcement will be made on Monday morning saying that the previous day's event was staged.

At the end of the day, your character will find out that the puppy/kitten is actually scheduled to be euthanized at the vet clinic on that day itself due to an incurable disease that they’ve been battling for a few weeks/months. The pair will be given a final task, and that task is to bring that puppy/kitten to the vet clinic for euthanization. What happens next is entirely up to you.
You may discuss with your partner and decide whether it’s a puppy or a kitten, and what sort of illness they had.
REMINDER
You’re required to write up a report on Sunday’s event as a team with at least three key learnings and tag it with #roselleexam20 before 11PM, Friday (05/22). There's no minimum or maximum word limit, you can be as brief or detailed as you like. Grades will be awarded based on team performance and how well you answer/complete the given task. Each task has a theme of its own, and the more you reflect that on your written report, the higher your grade will be.
OOC NOTE
When you’re plotting or writing with your partner, try not to worry too much (i.e. how the stuntmen/socialite would react to my character’s action etc.) and just flow with it. You and your partner have complete control of the plot. This exam is meant to get your creative juices going and help with character development. Please, however, remember to be as realistic as possible.
If your task is a trigger to you, please let me know immediately so you may work on another one.
Unlike the previous exams, your character will not be graded based on your headcanon/para/chatzy, but rather the written report. If you want to do something with your character(s) in regards to this plot, feel free to do so. However, major injuries or anything that’s potentially triggering must be discussed with us first before being put into motion. This is very important, so please remember to do that. Feel free to send us an ask if you’re unclear about anything. Good luck with the exam and have fun!
