A very cool snail that @lonely-dog-song brought to my attention this morning! It looks like a Rosy Wolfsnail (Euglandina rosea). I like its head shape, I’ve never seen anything like it before.

I have had a big snail friend living near/on my house for 3+ years now! I have seen them of and on, sometimes seeing them days in a row, other times I don’t see them for months!! When I last saw him, my mother was devestated that she stepped on him and broke his shell a bit. I said it should be fine, since not much was broken off. If I can every find my snail friend, I’ll show you them! Their shell is 2-3 inches long, and they are around 5 fully stretched out! They are seemingly common, but I love to see them!!!

I literally just learned they are invasive when I was looking up a picture.... but my snail buddy is one of the few (2-3 maybe..?) I see... (Southeastern SC)

Beautiful! This is a rosy wolfsnail aka cannibal snail, so named because they eat other snails and slugs. And yes unfortunately they are invasive in some areas and in fact caused at least 8 species of native snails on Hawaii to become extinct. Which is terrible because humans introduced them on purpose in Hawaii to try to control another invasive species, the giant African land snail. They didn’t eat the African snails, just the native ones. Yikes.

However! They are native to the southeastern United States! So your friend is not a criminal. And yes they’re certainly able to repair some shell damage assuming nothing integral was crushed and they’re still able to keep their inside bits moist.
