I know people have complained about ROTT to death, but something that's bugged me for years since I first watched it was how Toby's sacrifice and death was handled

The biggest problem I have with the choice of killing off Toby is that there was no build-up to it. Before this moment, the movie pays almost no attention to Toby; there's no scene between Jim and Toby where they talk to one another. Instead, those moments are given to Jim and Claire, which have already been explored. There are no hints about Toby feeling like he isn't doing more for the team, which honestly could've been really interesting since the series had the habit of pushing him to the side

His death literally comes out of nowhere. It's painfully obvious that they had Toby die not only for cheap shock value but to justify Jim's choice to go back in time and give Toby the amulet. It's disappointing because I think Toby getting an arc about feeling inadequate to the team and wanting to do more, eventually culminating in him being the reason that the team was able to win against the Arcane Order could've been amazing for his character. But unfortunately, they didn't go that route with him and we all know how ROTT's ending turned out

We in the fandom all know that ROTT is a copout ending of a movie that failed on so many levels but like...Seriously you're going to ruin all three of your shows by allowing a magical time travel ending and you aren't even going to kill off more of the cast?

Like, they killed off the two changelings for fun I guess, and possibly Archie I don't really remember if he died in that cave in or was just trapped, and then killed Merlin and Toby.

But like. You know none of this shit is gonna matter.

Kill off Barbara. Kill off Aaarrrgh again (Why not? Doesn't matter!). Kill off Blinky, Claire, Eli, Steve, Varvatos Vex, just kill 'em all off! Because you made it not matter!

God I fucking hate the movie.

When are beings in the TOA fandom going to realize that there are actually quite a few ROTT enjoyers in the fandom that are just quiet about enjoying it because they don't want to be constantly reminded that the movie they like is bad and that those ROTT enjoyers shouldn't have to always be worried about being told the movie sucks, when they want to talk about how they like it? Yes I am a ROTT enjoyer myself for my own reasons (reasons that are, 1000%, completely and utterly unrelated to the fact I'm Nari...) but that doesn't mean I don't understand and acknowledge the movie isn't good, I've mostly "bashed" the movie in the past but that was just me acknowledging a part of the movie that was bad, I've seen a lot of beings say that TOA fans who enjoy the movie are "Larpers" or "fake fans" just because they enjoy the movie which is just absurd to me, there could be a LOT of reasons as to why someone enjoys the movie: it could have given someone's comfort character a lot more screentime, someone might just really love the visuals or soundtrack of the movie and like seeing it in action in the film, etc. There are a lot of reasons why beings like the movie and I hate seeing comments on every post about ROTT about how much the commenter hates ROTT, how it ruined everything (because it did.), how they miss their favorite character that was killed in the movie, asking what anybody could possibly like about the movie, just really anything that shoots down other fans talking joyfully about their favorite piece of media, etc. When the post is very clearly talking about ROTT in a positive light or leaving their opinions on the movie ambiguous (which 50% of the time is a sign that they do like the movie but don't want hate for it.), a piece of media isn't REQUIRED to be good for someone to enjoy it, beings are simply allowed to...like it, that's it, again this isn't to say ROTT enjoyers believe the movie is good in writing quality at all whatsoever and they pretend it's not bad, they just like watching it, we are fully aware that the movie isn't really that good and it's just irritating constantly seeing comments always hating on what someone likes to their face when they already know it's not good, beings in the fandom shouldn't have to be worried about making fan content of things they like just because they know everybody will disagree with them and slander the thing they love to their face if they do. (Desperately hoping this finds the right audience...)

I keep thinking about how Claire was left alone in the original timeline. She lost one of her closest friends, and her boyfriend in less than ten minutes, with the lingering promise that everything will be fixed by some miracle, only to then realize that the “time” stone is not really a time stone and just created a whole new timeline that ain’t hers.

I mean, how cruel is that? You fought in a war, believing that after this you would have a normal life along with your family, boyfriend, and friends. Just to end up on a couch explaining to Barbara and Nancy that their kids are dead/missing. She probably will have nightmares of that moment. She probably will never go to that bench in the hill again. She probably won’t finish school properly.

And I say that because more than a boyfriend and a good friend, Toby, Jim, and Claire have trauma bonding. They are teenagers, fighting a war that ain’t theirs, almost getting killed every day, suffering from magical creatures/objects, and losing a close connection for that matter. Jim and Toby were the only people Claire would trust the most if she ever remembered when she lost Enrique, or when she got possessed, or when she left her parents to go to New Jersey, or even that time Jim went into the Darklands. She would tell NotEnrique, Blinky, or even Douxie, but it would not be the same comfort, would not be the same comprehension that Jim and Toby would have.

If I were her I would not get out my room for a year.
