White2Tea Rou Gui
It’s a cloudy day in North Texas, and while I typically grab my chai tea for cold dreary autumn days, this tea is even better.
I steeped roughly 6 grams of the Rou Gui (a roasted oolong tea - also called a rock tea) in a 150ml gaiwan - first infusion at 15 seconds.
The tea soup comes in at a lovely vibrant amber color, with smells of charcoal and cinnamon.
How does this tea come in on taste? Well like I said, it’s better than chai. If any of you are familiar with chai tea, you are enveloped in the spicy warmth that the tea so lovingly gives. Rou Gui is just oolong, no pieces of cardamon or orange peel, just oolong, but it provides exactly that effect. I started drinking this tea around 1pm CST with the first second and third infusion coming in with well bodied roasty-ness, followed by sweet floral cinnamon.
Fourth, fifth and sixth infusion brought out more creamy tones.
Seventh through eleventh infusion the tea started to part ways with the charcoal flavor, reminding me of greener oolongs.
To be honest, I could have kept going with this tea, it JUST KEPT GIVING! I didn’t stop drinking this tea until 10:30pm that night when I had to finally turn off the lights and go to bed.
This is why I love steeping high quality teas gongfu style, You share such an intimate experience with this tea through out an entire afternoon, reflecting and tasting what the tea has to offer.
I hope you liked todays review! These pictures are a little more moody than my normal style, but then again it was a moody day. Happy monday!
If you have any questions comments or concerns please feel free to send me a PM! Want to decide which tea I review next? Don’t hesitate to ask!
