Farsiders Rough Summary

A rough summary for the Farsiders series, which I made a pitch post for here.

Summary

Twenty years ago, strange Rifts to another dimension, called Farside, appeared in the bottom of the oceans, and the monsters of the depths rose to the floating islands in the sky, far above, destroying all they could.

Sixteen years ago, the Dragonguard of Tairkyda, armed with experimental magitech created by unknown scientists, sealed the rifts, killed the stragglers, and saved the world. Chao, the man who created the magitech, was made head of Tairkyda’s council and the city returned to its uneasy existence.

Nine years ago, a child appeared in Underside in the midst of a storm, singing the lullaby of the River of Death. Rhys is not the first Farsider, a child with magical abilities that stem from the Farside monsters and not the magic of their world, but they are by far the most powerful and the one most willing to cut down those in their path. It is illegal to harbour a Farsider. Illegal to let one live.

The Undersiders did it anyway. They protected Rhys, and Rhys, in turn, protected them.

Eight years ago, two children attempted to save their father from execution, only to be separated by their failure. One above and one below, neither has ever forgotten the elder’s vow to find, and rescue, the younger.

Seven years ago, a riot broke free of containment and swept through the residential areas of Topside. Civilians died, Topside and Underside alike, and the General’s son, Kichirou, vanished without a trace.

Six years ago, a man long thought dead slipped into the Underside in the dark of night, returning to his home after ten years away. He has much to do before his plans can unfold. But patience has always been his virtue.

Yesterday, Council Lead Chao received word from the Dragonguard Commander that his worst nightmare has come to life: there is a new Rift in the ocean and his magitech bomb has failed. The Farsider monsters are returning and he has no idea how to seal the Rift this time.

Today, the Underside churns. Three factions vie for power in the underbelly of Tairkyda, while young idealists and thieves struggle to carve out a place in their cutthroat society. Rising crime rates bring the Peacekeepers down on the Undersiders with a vengeance, and as tensions both within and across city halves grow, some are forecasting all out war.

And if war does break out, it’s anyone’s guess who will die, who will survive, and who will claw their way to the top and claim Tairkyda as their own.

It’s from an MC of Yuki Kajiura LIVE 2008.07.31 where Yuki is introducing all the musicians. 

I have no idea if there are any translations floating around but here’s the gist of what they are saying. Yuki is introducing Hitoshi Konno and saying how his violin-playing is very sexy and appealing. Keiko has been very smitten by his cool violin-playing so she wanted to learn a few things. She actually tried playing parts of “the world”, Konno taught her a few bits here and there. But so far she can only play about three notes. Yuki concludes that at this speed it will take her roughly three years to be able to play “the world”. And then three years down the line when she introduces her musicians, it will no longer be Konno she will be introducing but instead she will be saying: On violin => KEIKO! Yuki also says that Konno has become quite good at imitating Keiko’s mannerism when she is trying to play. Konno provides a demonstration although Keiko is very much against it. She is embarrassed as hell to hear his super slow and super off-tune imitation of her playing. She is like, “no, stop!!” Kaori confirms that this is pretty much exactly how her playing sounds. Yuki then notes that at Keiko’s slow playing tempo a song like “the world” would probably be 30 minutes long...

So yeah, that’s pretty much it...

Bokura no Jidai (Our Generation) Interview (translated rough summary)

Pyeongchang Olympics

Akiko and Kanako were both working in the media coverage of the event, but Mao was also watching and mentions being amazed at the double-punch victory in the men’s event. Kanako says watching Shoma was like watching her little brother, so she cried and cried. “I cried the most when I saw Shoma skating past Mihoko toward the end, and she was thumping the boards and screaming, ‘GO SHOMA, GO!’ [GANBARE!]

Mao and Akiko talk about being really impressed with the girls’ performances. It didn’t seem like they weren’t especially nervous about this competition at all.  Akiko says that for her the Olympics were a huge deal. Mao says she was the same way, saying she was incredibly nervous.

Kanako: “Today’s kids are very mentally strong.”

Akiko starts laughing, “Like Shoma...”

Kanako: “Well, Shoma is just scary. He was totally nonchalant, just his normal self. It’s almost to the point where you worry about him. Like when he asked the reporter, ‘Huh? Is there a medal ceremony after this?!!’”

[Everyone laughs]

Kanako: "He won a silver medal, so he's now this amazing person, but I'm relieved to see that off the ice he's still the same Shoma. It's not like he would ever become conceited or anything like that. That's what's great about him."

Mao: “I want him to stay like this.”

Kanako: “Yeah, I think he’s always going to be like this [laughs].”

Back when they were kids (when they all met)

Akiko thinks she was in high school when she met both of them. Kanako was six, so she doesn’t remember it well. Akiko remembers seeing Mao jump for the first time and thinking, “Wow, this new kid is amazing.”

Mao changed coaches and started working with Machiko-sensei when she was 10 years old, though she started skating when she was 5. Kanako and Mao both started figure skating because of their big sisters. Mao says Mai was doing ballet, and decided that ice skating was good for strengthening the ankles. Kanako and Akiko burst out laughing, “Seriously, that’s how you started? For the ankles?” Mai dragged Mao along.

Kanako also went because of her sister. Her mother went to Machiko-sensei because of Midori Ito, hoping they would learn from Midori. Kanako laughs, “Sensei was really pissed off like, ‘So, it wasn’t for my sake, huh?’”

Kanako and Mao were super competitive with their sisters. They didn’t want to lose to their big sisters. Kanako says she saw Mao be really competitive with Mai, the one who won would be celebrating and the one who lost would cry. “You don’t want to lose to your big sister,” Mao and Kanako agree.

Kanako started after her sister, so she worked hard to catch up with and surpass her in the scores. Kanako and Mao would play around and compete with each other too. They’d steal (Candy? What was it?) from sensei. Kanako would be freaking out and Mao would be saying, “Nah, she won’t find out.”

Akiko says she the image she had of them was “the two who would never leave the rink.” She brings up the fact that they weren’t allowed to rest. Akiko: “I was told that if I took one day off, it’d take me 3 to recover.” They were all surprised when they started going abroad and seeing how it was normal to take a day or two off. Mao mentions being shocked at people going to the beach the day of an event. Kanako says, “Yeah, this vacation stuff is amazing, huh.” Japanese Coaches won’t take days off either, so they don’t even mention “days off” to skaters.

Mao was told to take time off and rest before the Vancouver Olympics but she didn’t know how. She’d end up getting stressed/tired from walking around while trying to rest. The other two relate to that. None of them knew how to rest. Mao only started feeling like she needed time to rest around the time she was 21.

Everyone agrees their mothers were specially strict when they were in their 10s. Kanako asks Mao, “Was my mother strict?” Everyone laughs because she puts Mao on the spot. Mao: “It was because she loved you so much.” Akiko agrees. Kanako: “Her expression of love is so excessive!” Akiko: “It’s a rich form of love.”

Akiko says figure skating parents always work really hard for their kids. They talk about Mao’s mom being so hardworking, giving Mao advice from the rinkside. Mao’s parents wouldn’t really get mad at her – rather, they’d get mad at Mai. Kanako confirms this as an eyewitness, saying Mao was already strict with herself so it wasn’t necessary. Mao says her mother supported her and gave her lots of advice: “I think mothers are really important.” 

Marriage stuff

Akiko got married recently. Akiko says it was sudden, but she’s very happy. He’s very good to her, because she works all day and when she comes home he’s already made soup. She feels very touched at how attentive he is.

Mao and Kanako congratulate her, saying that kind of life sounds really nice.  Kanako asks Mao: “When will we get around to it?” Mao does want to get married. She used to want it more, but nowadays, when she finds something she wants to do, she doesn’t think much about marriage and boyfriends. Kanako says she likes kids, does want to get married and start a family, but the part of having to meet someone good and work up to getting married is such a hassle. Mao feels the same way. Kanako says she needs at least a year to go out with someone. 

Akiko says she was proposed to by her husband after 3 months. Kanako is shocked. Mao explains that it’s common, and sometimes people even get married right after meeting each other. Kanako would never do that: “Because what if at first he’s like, you’re amazing, here, drink this! Then 1 month after the wedding he’s like, ‘Come on, work! work!’ I’d be afraid of that.”

Akiko says Kanako should introduce the potential husband to them. Kanako says she’ll only get married to someone Mao approves of: “Mao’s going to be the biggest obstacle.” Mao says she doesn’t have that much experience, suggests Kanako try Akiko instead, but Kanako insists that Mao knows her the best and can tell her if she’s making the right decision.

Mao and Kanako says they want a balance between being taken care of or taking care of someone. Mao says if someone takes care of her too much, she’ll get tired. She wants someone who comes and goes so she doesn’t get tired of them.

Akiko: “From a woman’s perspective, between loving more or being loved more, I think it’s better to be loved.”

Olympic Ambition

Kanako didn’t have any specific ambitions before seeing Mao’s FS in Vancouver. That’s when she felt motivated to work hard and achieve great things just like Mao.

Akiko went to the National Championships before Salt Lake city with Shizuka, and ever since then, she’s wanted to be picked as an Olympic representative.

Mao watched Tara Lipinski in the Nagano olympics and seeing someone so young accomplish so much motivated her to do the same. “She was really tiny and cute,” Mao says.

When did they first stop having fun and start thinking they wanted to stop skating?

Kanako never really had all that much fun. Skating became a part of her routine like eating or showering. She was always thinking about quitting.

Akiko always enjoyed it. While she was active, she doesn’t think she’s ever thought, “I want to quit.”

Mao really loved skating. She did ballet and other things, but skating was what she stuck with. She first started to get a lot of attention from the media with the triple-triple combinations, and she didn’t think of the attention she got as a child as a burden. Being recognized on the street gave her the sense that she’d accomplished a lot. She enjoyed having people say, “Wow you’re all grown up,” and stuff like that. That was a source of strength.

Akiko: “But wasn’t that kind of pressure hard to bear, too? Especially with medals and stuff?”

Mao says no. She wanted a medal herself; she set that goal for herself. After Sochi, when she started being unable to get results, then she started thinking skating was starting to become impossible for her. By that time, being asked by the media if she had hit her limit did make her more aware of the difficulty.

Kanako started to find it difficult to continue around the same time as Mao, so they would be aware of each other’s hardships and kind of salute to one another: “Hang in there today.”

Akiko: “...And young kids start making their way up, too. For me, it got really hard two years before Sochi. You two both aimed for Sochi after Vancouver right? I never once said I was aiming for Sochi during those 3 years because I thought it was impossible at 28. But then I saw you two working so hard to go to Sochi, I started thinking I wanted to go with you. I was able to work hard because of you.”

Kanako: [almost crying] You look like you’re going to cry!

Mao: I felt the same way as you, that I was hitting my limit, it was time for younger kids, so the fact that you felt like that...

[Kanako and Akiko start laughing because they’re all tearing up]

Mao: “No, PLEASE DON’T START CRYING, YOU GUYS.”

Mao, crying, to Akiko: “It was so hard feeling like I was hitting my limit, but then looking at you work the way you did, I thought it was amazing.”

Akiko: “I’m so grateful because if it weren’t for you two, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to keep working.”

Kanako: “For me, too, my motivation was to keep up with you guys. I wanted to go with you. With figure skating, and even now with my current work, I’m thankful to you guys.”

Mao: I think that, when Kanako became a senior skater, that’s when the women [of Team Japan] really stuck together as a unit. Before, it was more like, ‘Everyone please work hard,’ but then, with Kanako, we were all closer together. It’s something everyone probably knows, but back then, I would get tunnel vision when I was working toward something, so I didn’t socialize much. Then, in my twenties, when we were with Kanako, it became more like, ‘Let’s all work hard together!”

SnB Volume 15 - scans and extras

Tried to be as gentle as possible with my new volume and scanned the extras on the end as well as the inside of the cover for adorable chibi Juju and a busty Farlan on the backside cover.

Last few pages are an Introduction to Sindria.

First double page is a map of Sindria where it explains all important buildings and places, explaining their use.

Second double page starts introducing the eight generals briefly, with a moping Sharrkan who has been left out. ( poor baby xD )

Directly under that it talks about Sinbads adventure legends and that it is the worlds most popular literature. ( i wanna read Sin's version too lol!)

Next page on top it talks about Sindrias most famous dishes, such as King Sinbad Dumplings ( Yum! ) and some special Sindria Lunch Plate ( it contains ingredients from all the allied nations. )

Next is about Masrur occasionally sneaking away and people have to go and look for him. ( hope i read that correctly lol )

Sin, Mahad, Vittel and Ja’far:

"Welcome to the Kingdom of Sindria!"

Note that my Japanese is only on a very beginner level and still gotta work on my vocabulary. Still hope you enjoy!

AnY ch. 143 spoilers below~~

We start the chapter with a flashback

Princess Kouren is walking around picking up severed heads all over the floor.. and people are getting freaked out by it.

Kouren see’s Neguro and walks up to him and states that his head .. is still attached , and Neguro replies that he’s alive.

Kouren hugs him crying.

Neguro’s thinks to himself while Kouren is hugging him that he will give himself up for this girl, no matter what, and devote himself to her.

We return to the present time where everyone is stunned by seeing Neguro with an arrow to his chest.

More arrows are fired and Hak yells for Yona and covers her using his body.

Yona closes her eyes and when she opens them she sees Haks been shot with two arrows on his back.

Yona calls for Hak but Has comments its just a scratch (T_T STOP IT HAK)

We look to Neguro who has more new arrows all over his body .

He tells princess Kouren not to leave his side because there aiming for her.

Kouren questions if this is Soo-wons doing

Yona tells to her this isn’t Soo-won’s doing because Soo-won has agreed to have a meeting with them.

Kouren is shocked over this.

Kouren screams for Yona to give her the bow since Yona will be not be able to shoot (?)

Kouren plans to shoot but Neguro tells her to just use his body as a shield, Kouren says that they will meet in the afterlife.

More arrows are shot and still Neguro won’t move.

Someone then is aiming to shoot Princess Kouren from the back.

We are now in the prison where the HHB are at

Shin-ah hears people coming.

Some men come and ask Mizari if he is in fact Mizari.

Mizari replies that he is and gets shot in the chest with an arrow by the intruders.

Yoon yells for Mizari, but he won’t move.

The suspicious men are commenting about their plan to kill Yotaka, Neguro, Mizari, and Princess Kouren , and to take away princess Tao under the instructions of Priest Gobi.

They tell the hhb to rejoice because princess tao will take the throne.

Mizari gets up and starts screaming  that Yokata and Neguro won’t be outdone by them, and continues screaming.

The intruders are  about to shoot Mizari in the chest again, but Kija knocks them out with his hand, as well as destroying the cage.

Kija tells Mizari to go to Kouren

Mizari looks at Kija and runs out of the prison.

The intruders yell to chase Mizari.

Shin-ah then appears and  uses his powers on the intruders.

and that ends this chapter! Next issue is July 20th!

Maybe we’ll finally see the whole HHB back together in the next chapter (T_T).

If no raws appear shortly, I’ll post some pages up if anyone is interested in them.

(Sorry this took so long. I was planning to do this as soon as I got back from traveling, but sleep won me over. So this is me just waking up from a coma of sleep . Again sorry guys)

I just read the full chapter on Baidu. Basically the first half is Furuta’s clowns against Urie and Kuroiwa, and the second is the 24th ward against Oggai. Kuroiwa did alright with Shikorae but poor Urie got ambushed by Roma though. Damn when will he ever stop suffering? And in the 24th ward so far only the White Suits, Miza, Yomo and Touka were shown and they managed to hold back the Oggai for a bit. Looks like there were about 20 something Oggai sent there only if they were subdued that fast? And then Mutsuki commanded and they all seemed to frame out. Kaneki appeared in the middle of the chapter with Tsukiyama and Banjou and sensed something wrong.
