a thing ill love forever is when two different cultures have similar cuisine, clothing, dance, etc. and my favorite example of this is hair ribbons

though ribbons braided into hair can be tied to many different cultures i want to highlight mexican and rromani braids in particular

Something that’s really sad to me is that there is basically no online Roma community anymore

Bbc used to have a message board for Romany teens, and they still do, but no one has used it since 2005, and those teens that were on it will be adults now, and plenty with their own kids now

Rumblr used to be an active, thriving space, but most people left, and now there’s only a few of us

The Romani Reddit imploded on itself and now there isn’t one

The only things I can thing of are the tik tok communities, which aren’t close knit and are super toxic from what I’ve seen and heard, and the discord, which it’s hard to track down a link for

i hate when gadje try to chime in on g slur discourse🙄my family self-identifies as gypsies, and if i was talking to someone irl i’d just call myself a gypsy, but that doesn’t mean the work of romani activists who want gadje to start calling us by our endonym is wrong or people who dislike how the word “gypsy” is used in popular culture are just trying to be “woke.”

i just saw a gadjo get upset that some romni was happy they changed the name of the “gypsy moth” to the spongy moth😭

also something gadje who are weirdly upset that people are advocating for people to stop using the word “gypsy” do not seem to understand is that plenty of people groups have been trying to get others to stop using the exonyms europeans placed on them??? like this isn’t a thing unique to rom lmao.
