Re: terms of endearment, slang (?) terms

I use terms such as Darling, or Love etc as a term to address people. This is not indicative of my relationship or opinion towards them, and nor do o intend for it to make people feel uncomfortable. If I call you these things it is entirely platonic and friendly. Please let me know if you do lot wish me to use these, or if I make you uncomfortable. Thanks!

Equally, I also use slang terms such as Dude, bro or queen gender neutrally. I do not intend for these to have anything to do with gender, and I do not use them in a gendered way. If you do not wish for me to use specific words for you, then let me know! I also say ‘sir’, ‘señor’ and ‘ma’am’ as a kind of ‘sir this is a restaurant’ thing in a joking way, or as a show of surprise (yes it’s kinda weird). I do not mean for this to be directed at anyone’s gender.

I am myself nonbinary-generfluid, so I understand not wanting these words to be used. I will of course not use (for example) ‘girlie’ to address a trans boy or ‘bro’ to address a trans girl, unless the specific person says otherwise

hello teenager. in front of you is a 2 ton chevy trailerblazer. you can either start driving, putting yourself and those around you in immediate danger, along with causing you great anxiety, or you can spend your life aaking your friends and family to chauffeur you around town because you cant go butt fuck no where without a car. if you choose to drive, you will have to spend your life paying mandatory microtransactions for a mode of transport you hate. if you dont, you will have to ride the almost nonexistent public transport system and/or put yourself in grave danger by riding a bicycle down a 45 mph stroad. if you complain to anyone in your life about learning to drive a car, you get acid poured onto you. good luck.

Happy international Romani Day! This year with the ongoing genocide against Palestinians i would like to draw attention to the Dom people in Palestine. The Dom and Roma people are not the same as the groups left India at different times and using different routes but they share similar origins and face similar struggles and oppression. There are estimated 2.2 million Dom people in the Middle East and North Africa. The Palestinian Dom people live in West Bank, Gaza and occupied Jerusalem. The biggest Dom community is in Gaza — around 12,000-15,000 people were living there when the war started, but nobody knows how many of them are still alive.

The Domari Society is a non-profit organization based in Jerusalem aiming to improve the conditions of the Dom people, founded by Amoun Sleem who's interviewed in the recent article linked above. The Domari Society is unique for being founded and organized by the Dom community itself and has done incredible work such as providing education for children and women and preserving the endangered Domari language. The organization relies on donations to fund its activities and i recommend donating to them if you want to support the Palestinian Dom people in this particularly difficult time. Just raising awareness about the Dom and their situation is important too even if you can't donate

I've talked about how White artists get a lot more attention for their nonwhite OC's, and White artists get a lot more praise for drawing ""accurate"" depictions of racialized cultures versus people from those cultures accurately depicting themselves, but there's also this phenomenon that I think it stems from where certain artists (a lot of them White, but it's not exclusive to them at all) will go through some effort of research to depict a specific demographic in an art piece, but not out of a real desire to be accurate.

One example frequently is when People just slap tuuniit on the ATLA Water Tribe characters to give off the impression of being "more accurate" but they clearly don't know anything and didn't do enough research outside of copying photos of Inuit from google, because we frequently end up with artists depicting the 14 year old Katara with tattoos that, in Inuit culture, signify she is already married and has multiple children

(Sticking with a Native perspective bc I'm ndn), A lot of the time I truly think there's Artists that care more about looking more "progressive" to other moniyaws by depicting Native aesthetics they don't actually understand or know anything about, because to other people (their audience who is not Native) it looks more "accurate", even when it's not. It's an ignorant artist presenting vague Native aesthetics to an ignorant audience for brownie points, because this brave, white knight artist was so wonderful as to not draw them as an overtly racist caricature (lucky us /s)

Because there's 1 of 2 ways artists will react:

Stop immediately and correct their inaccuracies and listen to the depicted demographic when we say what theyve drawn is inaccurate (which these artists claim to want to be, they claim to want to be accurate) and/or insensitive. This is the correct reaction if one claims to be anti-racist & wishes to be accurate in their artistic depictions.

Outright say or imply that the people from the demographic they're depicting is wrong actually and is being "too sensitive", that "its just art", or "its just fantasy", which proves my point that they've drawn this out of a desire to be SEEN as "progressive" for using vague aesthetics that, to a White/ignorant audience from outside of the culture being depicted, simply APPEAR more "accurate" and "authentic"

Like these artists aren't doing this out of a desire to be accurate or culturally sensitive, it's out of a desire for praise & brownie points from other moniyaws for having done it.

#only tangibly connected but related to the second option of how they reach #a popular Instagram queer meme account (aka they post a lot of screenshots from tumblr- the ones that are always beung screen shotted to #various other platforms) posted something that had an antizigani slur in it #and i commented like ‘hey just so you know that’s actually a slur and you should probably delete the post or at least censor it’ before it #had been seen by a ton of people #and instead of listening to me they were like ‘NO NO THEY SAY ITS FINE D:<<<‘#and i was like ‘I’m actually from this ethnic group its not fine its a slur’#and they were on a massive tangent about how i #a) wasnt from that ethnic group so i couldnt tell them what to do (even though i am and told them that i am?)#and b) the slur ‘makes them feel special and magical’#like. they directly said that.#they then blocked me #deleted half their comments #and deleted the messages they’d sent attacking me #all so that I couldn’t call them out #which I hadn’t even said they’d done #racist people are genuinely so desperate to validate their racism as fine

Hello dear people

I am Nabila from Gaza,, I am speaking to you with a heavy and painful heart. I am sorry that I had to ask for help from you, but what we are living is what pushed me to do this. I was living a beautiful, quiet life, enjoying the time I spend with my grandchildren and seven daughters.

Imagine waking up to find that your world has changed in a moment, and you have lost your security and peace, and your home has been destroyed, and you have become homeless and living in conditions that no human being can bear. I suffer from chronic diseases, high blood pressure and diabetes. My medication has run out for some time and I am facing difficulty in obtaining it in light of the lack of treatment in hospitals and health centers. Most of the time I cannot feel my limbs, but I am trying to resist. I do not want to die in such circumstances. I still have hope that this war will end and we will rebuild our beautiful and beloved country again and live in safety. I believe in divine power and justice and that all this pain will go away.

I am trying to endure these difficult conditions that I live in inside a small tent and a bathroom a few meters away from my tent and you know the conditions of diabetics in this case but once again there is still hope. I used to live at the expense of my daughters but with all sadness and regret they have all lost their homes and places of work and they have no source of income left and their situation is like that of any Gazan who is still inside Gaza struggling with death, hunger, diseases and extreme heat each one struggling to feed his children I cannot ask them for help so I have resorted to you and I am fully confident in your humanity to help me so that I can provide food and treatment and provide a better tent than the one I live in because it is torn and the place is full of insects. If I can provide treatment, I want to continue my life and see my grandchildren grow up around me. I don’t want to go now. I know that I don’t have as much life left as I have, but I have the right to live and enjoy this. Please don’t hesitate to help your mother who has come to you with a heavy and sad heart. Every dollar will make a difference in my life. Don’t leave me to live this pain. I appreciate what you are doing for every Palestinian inside and outside Gaza. I pray to God that you don’t go through what we are going through, my beloved.
