Davrin stood in front of Ashur, trying to not fidget. He’d faced down a three headed Archdemon and the goddess of monsters herself. Waiting for Ruby to walk down the aisle shouldn’t be this nervewracking. The doors to the private chapel swung open and Davrin gasped quietly. He could feel Lucanis’ smirk as Ruby approached, draped in white.
The gown was… surprisingly modest compared to what she liked to wear. She was still gorgeous of course, the halter top showing off her wing tattoos wonderfully. Her bright red hair was piled atop her head neatly and gold jewelry winked in the sunlight. Her makeup was perfect, as always, and Davrin couldn’t stop the smile growing on his face.
She took his hands as she approached and Davrin brushed his thumbs over her knuckles.
“You look incredible,” he whispered as Ashur began the ceremony.
“So do you,” Ruby smiled.
Davrin could hardly focus on Ashur’s words, too busy studying his gorgeous fiance. She was practically glowing in the sunlight and he was dazzled.
“Do you have your vows?” Ashur asked them with a smile. Davrin was still not used to seeing him without the mask. Davrin nodded, pulling the prewritten vows from his pocket.
“Ruby de Riva,” He began, meeting her gaze for a moment. “When we first met, I had no idea things would end up here. You were a wildfire, a chaotic element I didn’t know I needed. You made the time for me and Assan even with the weight of the world on your shoulders. I will spend every day of my life repaying you for that.”
Assan chirped from the audience in agreement, towering over the rest of the guests. Ruby giggled and Davrin smiled.
“I promise, now and forever, to always love you, to protect you and Assan, and to give you any and all support you need. You are my everything Ruby. That will never change. I promise to honor this union until we die, and even then, I will find you in the Fade and remain by your side.”
Ruby looked like she was about to cry and Davrin quickly took her hands back in his.
“I should’ve gone first,” she chuckled, wiping her eyes. “I can’t believe I’m crying.”
The small audience chuckled as well and Ruby took a deep breath.
“Davrin. You are the rock I never knew I needed, the protector I didn’t want. But you’ve changed my life in a way I never could have imagined. I love you, Davrin, I never thought I’d admit that. You push me to be a better person, to be a better partner. I never thought I would find the good in that. You and Assan have made me better,” she paused a moment to wipe her eyes again. “I promise to stay by your side, to care for our little family, and to grow with you through it all.”
Ashur continued the ceremony, and Davrin felt his own tears well.
“You may now kiss your bride,” Ashur smiled. Davrin leaned in and Ruby dipped him, grinning against his mouth as the private chapel erupted into whoops and whistles. He held her close, cupping her face and eventually she pulled him back up.
