“Today? Hold on.”
Alan turned his eyes away from Ruby, who held her hands behind her back, and pulled out his phone. His thumb clicked the power button, lighting up the screen. “…April 25th.”
“And do you remember what April 25th is?” The woman slid the box around to hold in front of her.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “What’s that? A present?”
She ushered it towards him. “Happy birthday.”
"If the world burned down around us, would you fight through the flames with me?" 🔗🧬
Started some sketches of Ruby in house uniform 🧬
I tried to make it funadementally the same as Yuri's since it functions as a work uniform (and sort of like how the Frostheim uniforms are), but with her own unique spin on the details here and there. Given her backstory, I also tried to get across a little bit of this idea of "duplicity" here and there.

Y'know, I was intially going to make Ruby work primarily in pharmaceuticals in a similar position I'm in currently, and make some of her stories inspired by things I go through on the job.
But, I ended up bastardizing Ruby's personality in Burning Wings towards the end of the story after enduring the apocalypse for several years, rather than writing her as more of a persona, and making her a doctor and ghoul instead. I'm not exactly sure how I got there tbh...
"What? But-"
"I've decided." Alan's tone was resolute.
Ruby stared, still tripping over her words. "No...no, you—"
"I'm not changing my mind."
With that, he spun on his heel and headed for the door.
"No...Mido-kun!"
His back grew distant, ignoring her pleas.
"Mido-kun!"
He disappeared through the doorframe.
"Alan!!"
For just a brief second, from where she couldn't see, hesitation stole his feet before he forced himself away from the room with fists tightly wound.
A sigh, and her shoulders sunk.
Then, a child's voice emerged just beside her. "Do you like him?"
"...Shizuyo?"
The girl's large, emerald eyes watched the woman curiously. A hint of mischief mixed with a sort of pity swirled in them. "You have that sort of longing look on your face."
Ruby grimaced, shielding her face with a hand. "I'm just concerned, okay?"
"I understand. But perhaps you should tell him."
"...What good would that do now?" Her hand fell, grey eyes sliding to the floor. "If things keep going as they are..."
"Which is why now is the perfect time to do it."
The two traded a glance, uncertainty meeting reassurance.
"And if all goes well, you have my blessing."
"H—" Brain short-circuit.
Rebooting.
"Haah??!"
Shizuyo laughed.

“I’m not sure exactly how that would work…I’ll have to draw a diagram.”
“Do you remember if I finished that yet…? Eh, it’ll only take ten minutes. I can finish my break.”
“I think I’ll take a walk for a bit and clear my head. There’s more drugs floating around in there than what I’ve prescribed today…ugh.”
“It’s a wonder why people come to Mortkranken for medical assistance, considering…. Well, we're the best option really.”
