Aber wenn du rufst, ich bin da, wenn du mich suchst...
Apache 207, unterwegs
Als Gott das Kinn verteilte, habe ich “GIN” verstanden. Hätte nicht “zwei für mich” rufen sollen.

391. Some not so hot advertising
“Holliwould sign” - created for the 1992 animated bomb Cool World the iconic Hollywood sign was “edited” to have Kim Basinger’s animated character, Holli Would sit on the “d” of the sign. Neighbors were not amused.1
Michael Jackson’s HIStory float - I thought that the Michael float moved across the water at a snail’s pace, that’s how I thought I remembered it. In this video from the Associated Press, Michael is booking across the Thames.
Dockers bus shelter ads in New York City: In 1995, Dockers thought it would be cool to put an actual pair of pants under glass on bus shelters. You know, so the people could see what an actual pair of Dockers looked like? Welp, people broke the glass and stole the $50 pants. Dockers actually planned on this, having an outline of the pants behind the actual pants, but New York City still said no and the ads were pulled.
Body Parts ads pulled in Milwaukee - At first, I just found this little article in the New York Times Times Machine. I said out loud, “Wait, what happened in Milwaukee?”. Jeffrey Dahmer was just arrested a couple of months earlier in Milwaukee. When he was arrested he had 11 bodies in his apartment. This is more of a “poor timing” ad than a not so hot idea.
Miller’s tips for Spring Break - It’s like if Beavis & Butthead was literate.
Saturn ad with deaf lady who wasn’t deaf (late 1996)- Unfortunately, I could not find the commercial, and that makes me so angry. I did find the print ad in an issue of Backpacker Magazine of all places:
I guess this lady, Holly Daniel, wanted to be in a Saturn commercial so bad that she faked being deaf. In the commercial, Holly is so excited over her Saturn that she creates a new American Sign Language sign for “Saturn”. Some in the deaf community said that is a violation of American Sign Language.
Trudy Suggs was one of those people. After writing a letter to Deaf Life magazine, people began to email her and stated that Holly was not deaf. Trudy began her own investigation. At one point, a reporter from the Chicago Tribune called Holly. Holly picked the phone right up and said hello. Realizing she was in a bind, she claimed suddenly that she was her twin sister and that Holly wasn’t home. Saturn finally pulled the TV and print ad in April of 1997. 2 3
Rufen, the first prescription drug commercial (May 19,1983) - The Boots pharmaceutical company decided to take a risk and do something no company had done before -- run a commercial for a prescription drug. Welp, the FDA demanded Boots remove the commercial within 48 hours of it airing. 4 Of course prescription drug commercial air all the time now.
Domino’s Noid - Domino’s Pizza had a great thing going with its Noid campaign, a little red guy who tried to ruin pizzas. I even had a little Noid bendy figure when I was lil. I still have him on one of my displays.
Well, in 1989 a guy whose last name was Noid got fed up and tried to burglarize a Domino’s Pizza. He tried to hold two employees hostage, but they escaped. 5 Kenneth Noid believed that the character was invented to “persecute him”. He later killed himself in 1995 after years in a mental institution. 6
Beanie babies being discontinued after 1999 - I actually remember seeing this on the news right before my junior year of high school, in the living room, where up above my room had nearly a hundred of these little guys. They were legit probably the only thing that made me happy sophomore year of high school. Part of me knew it was some sort of gimmick, but the other half of me was devastated. Of course we all know now it was a gimmick, all the old beanies were discontinued at the end of 1999, and new ones were released shorty after and we stopped caring.
