Usually I don't post straight up clips of Advent Children, but god. This is THE Kadaj scene.

His entire character in all of its glory is summed up in this scene, and I can break it down for anyone who doesn't understand.

First of all, it's a perfect display of just how skilled he is in combat, and at controlling his powers. Reno and Rude are both very skilled fighters, and they resided in this room with Rufus while the door was locked. Kadaj managed to slip through said door by turning into mist, and then proceeded to WIPE THE FUCKING FLOOR with Reno and Rude and turn up without a scratch. Not to mention that he clearly was strong enough to take out Elena and TSENG of all people and have proof to show it.

Another thing is that people tend to undermine just how intense Kadaj's emotions are, and how quickly they can flip between one another. Kadaj is described in the ultimania to have intense mood swings and is even written as "insane." When we listen to him talk in this scene, you can tell exactly when his voice drops to be intimidating and cold, when it gets hysterical as he talks about his mother, how it wavers when he brings up they they can't find her, and that he's just a remnant, and how he gets close and nearly yells at Rufus as he mentions that they can't be whole again if they can't find Mother. Mystery, anger, joy, sadness, all of this within ONE conversation. His voice actor noted how hard it was to get Kadaj's mood swings accurately, but by god did that hard work pay off.

We all know Rufus for being like an unwavering rock, staying calm in nearly every situation and being perfectly informed of what's going on. But with Kadaj, he's clearly at a loss. For once, he doesn't have an emotional advantage. He's asking genuine questions. When he tries to be smug for once, Kadaj immediately catches on, and throws the bloodied IDs of Rufus' coworkers at his feet to show that he is NOT fucking around. And Rufus immediately drops the act. Kadaj clearly intimidates him and it SHOWS, even if he does a very good job at hiding it outright. And despite Kadaj outright terrorizing and threatening Rufus, he still calls him "Sir" and "Mr. president." Almost as if to say "your title is just that; a title. You don't have any real strength." He's toying with Rufus and it's fucking beautiful.

God I could go on for HOURS about this scene but I'll stop there. I just needed to yap about it because this is literally my favorite scene from the entire goddamn movie. It's so good. Feel free to add your own thoughts, if you wish.
