Ohhhh man ok so in the deadbeat mi-yeong au, Rumi doesn’t know Mi-yeong is her bio mom. Please keep in mind, Rumi has a bone deep hatred for Mi-yeong and Thirdlight for all the horrible things they said about Celine. So how do you think Rumi would feel finding out? Or even worse (better), how would Mi-yeong feel about Rumi’s reaction?
Rumi stumbles back, bumping into the counter. She grabs it for stability, she needs the help. Zoey and Mira are standing in the doorway, but she ignores them. She ignores Mi-yeong and Thirdlight sitting at the table, instead focusing on Celine whos standing in front of her.
“What do you mean?” Rumi’s voice is shaky, barely restrained as she asks for clarification.
Celine is wringing her hands, a rare sign of how stressed she is. “The woman who gave birth to you… it wasn’t me.” Rumi watches as Celine turns, gesturing to the table. “It was Mi-yeong.”
Rumi stands, stunned for a moment. Before spinning and grabbing the trash can beside the counter, retching into it. After a few moments, Celine puts her hand on Rumi’s back in an attempt to soothe her.
Rumi spins, slapping away Celine’s hand with a wild look in her eyes. “DON’T! Don’t… don’t touch me.” Rumi wipes at her face, trying to gather her thoughts in spite of the intense rage and nausea. “I…I refuse to believe I’m related to that monster.”
Mi-yeong flinches, as does Celine. Celine try’s again, speaking softly. “Rumi, I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. I am your Eomma, but she is the one that brought you into this world. Shes not a monster for that.”
Rumi growls, voice resonating otherworldly as she glares at Celine. “No. No, I refuse, you always said that just because I’m part demon doesnt make me a monster. You said it’s someone’s actions, what they do, that make them a monster.”
Rumi points an accusing finger at Mi-yeong, trembling in rage as she continues.
“She has said since I first got here just how much of a mistake I am. That my birth was something awful, and worse, that you refusing to kill a baby was an evil thing. They told Mira, and Zoey, how horrible you are and they agreed!”
Rumi lets her arm drop, not looking anywhere but at Celine. She ignores the tears falling from her teammates eyes, ignores how Mi-yeong is crying while thirdlight comforts her.
“If that doesn’t make someone a monster, Eomma, then I don’t know what does.” Rumi’s turns as she says that, walking out and slamming the door behind her.
She is frozen. Celine is standing in front of her, finally, after almost two decades, and shes frozen. Because of Rumi. Rumi, who was so repulsed at the idea of their being related that she had thrown up, that her opinion of Mi-yeong is that shes a monster…
She can’t contain the sobs anymore. Thirdlight hugs her, trying to help soothe her, but it does very little. Celine looks at her, a conflicted expression on her face. For a moment, hope flickers in Mi-yeongs chest that Celine will hold her like before, comfort her, tell her everything will be alright.
But Celine just shakes her head in disappointment, turning and walking out the door after Rumi. She closes the door far more gently, but it might have been a gunshot.
For a moment, the only sound is Mi-yeong crying and Thirdlights comforting whispers. Mira’s voice breaks the silence.
The two trainers turn, looking at Mira and Zoey standing in the doorway. Zoey looks confused, scared, looking between the two woman and Mira. Mira looks livid.
“Your Rumi’s actual mom? And you’ve been saying this kinda stuff about Celine because she was willing to take care of her?”
Mi-yeong opens her mouth, but no words come out. Thirdlight speaks instead, voice strained. “Celine chose to take the demon-“
“Rumi. Her name is Rumi, and she is our friend. ”
“…she chose to take Rumi, even though she said she would take care of it.”
Mira scoffed at that, clapping sarcastically. “Oh good! You wanted her to kill a baby instead of taking care of it! So you decided as punishment to drag her name through the mud for fifteen years!”
Thirdlight glowers at Mira. “It was a demon, we were hunters, there wasnt-“
“Oh you’re right! I almost forgot, Mi-yeong’s the one who decided to have a fling with a demon! Then, when she had the risk of having a kid, she decided ‘oh I know, I’ll just have Celine kill it!’ Great plan.”
Mira turns, stalking away.
“Dont worry, you dont need to apologize to Celine, or Rumi for that matter. You’re good at avoiding those, right?”
Zoey looks between Mira retreating further down the hallway and the two of them, uncertainty in her gaze.
Finally, she speaks, her voice quiet. “I thought you two were our role models.”
She doesn’t say anything else, instead leaving to follow Mira.
The two woman dont get up from the table for a long time after that.
I imagine this scenario had Celine coming to help with a massive breach, and she ended up taking them to Jeju island because she couldn’t trust them not to pass out. Then there’s an argument in the kitchen and the girls show up partway through and Thirdlight says something she defenitely shouldnt have and that led to this.
Hope y’all like it lol, be sure to eat something tasty today!
