Watsonian explanation for her oni-esque legs and tail is that she has none of the same baggage abt being a robot that her parents have, so she has fully embraced the potential she has to make herself into whatever she wants. He has other body mods that he'll swap into as the need or want arises but this one is his favorite.

Murk is basically Lorel's little familiar that she made out of various bones she collected, including the skull of a barnacle goose. He carries messages for her in his little bridle, and does other small tasks for her as well as a silly goose can do them. (She loves him very much)

man i can't stop thinking about how Axis finds so much freedom and self-actualization in being able to change out his body parts at will and make himself into anything he wants, while in contrast Zane is so resistant to changing himself because almost every major change to his person has been violent and forced and traumatizing.

So while he's happy Axis is happy, he's so very nervous and feels like she's going to lose herself like he has so many times, and when she tries to show him some new swap-able part she made, he always tries to warn her gently about making sure she remembers who she is, to not go too far. Which to him sounds fine and reasonable, but to Axis it just feels like he's shutting her down, like he doesn't understand that being able to change is part of who she is.

It makes Axis stop telling Zane about his projects or other things he enjoys, makes him make larger changes to himself just to spite Zane's warnings, and just widens the gap between them.
