Happy Storyteller Saturday! Who kidnapped Ryan for a decade and why?

hiii happy STS!

okay so this is a heavy, heavy WIP, so i don't have like, names nor well-defined plot because i don't really know how to write it and make it good hahah

so. Ryan Drake. he moves to fictional US, tries to become a lawyer, fails miserably, gets disilusioned with the system and decides to do something about it. he finds a patron and starts "fixing" things in the background: he investigates politicians and uses coercion and blackmailing to force them to do their jobs properly

of course, this creates a lot of enemies as his plan crescendos, and eventually the bigger fish get bothered enough for them to put aside their differences and deal with their common enemy before he dethrones everyone. so they craft a plan to kill him, but the thing is that they don't know what kind of plans he might've created behind their backs; they're convinced that Ryan must've developed some kind of failsave in the events of him disappearing, so instead of killing him, they keep him alive and try to pry all the information about his organization out of him so they can uproot all his plans without having to worry about consequences

so they try to force him to talk. and they fail again and again. he feeds them wrong information, he manipulates them to fight amongst themselves, he's basically dancing around them, or at least he does during the first months of his capture. as time passes, he loses steam and energy to oppose them, and the people who captured him slowly lose interest and forget about him too. isolation ends up breaking him after years in captivity, and even after he escapes, there's only a husk left of his former self. he spends some years hiding and healing in Mexico before he contacts Agnes and they reunite. at that point, it's been almost a decade since he disappeared, and everything he had built up in his organization is long gone, so there's no hope of returning to that plan anytime soon. that won't stop him from wanting to exact blind revenge on the people who captured him, though. he tries to kill the person in charge of dealing with him but Agnes stops him, convincing him to give up and forget about everything before he ends up dead. and that would be the end of his story

hopefully that clarifies a bit about what happens in Todo Lo Que Sube!

how do they handle being told "no" to something they want to do (for whoever u wanna write!)? are there certain people they're less/more likely to listen to?

Ryan: no? what do you mean no? do you KNOW who he is? what he can DO? he's got a (somewhat justified at least?) big ego so "no" isn't a valid answer to him. he will get what he wants no matter what stays in the path, although this mostly applies to anyone outside his organization, anyone who's an enemy, a roadblock in his way to success. he is specially partial to Agnes' advice because while he's got a lot of different things that can influence his thought process at any time (including his own feelings about certain topics), she usually has a cold and grounded opinion to offer about whatever topic he asks her about. in a way, she serves as an anchor point to him

Agnes: being told "no" will just make her want to do what she wants with renewed effort, even if it's just to spite you. specially if it's just to spite you. the only person that she will listen to is Ryan, at least during the first arcs of the story. eventually she will develop her own criteria and will have a more calm/objective attitude overall

Raz: if it's something minor, he'll accept the boundary. if it's something important, he will stand his ground for the sake of everyone else who depends on him. Eva remains a weak spot of his, so he will be influenced by her opinion most of the times.

Donovan: he doesn't care enough about almost everything to want things for himself. and in the rare case he does, don't try to stop him. you'll only get hurt in the process. completely indifferent to whatever you have to say. he WILL get what he wants, and you can't do anything about it

Lee: giant pushover baby <3 he WILL look at you with big wet puppy eyes if you say no to him. the result will depend on how well you can resist his charms and adorableness to persuade you into giving him permission

Vreytus: no. he's determined to get/do what he wants, no matter the cost, no matter the sacrifice

Happy Storyteller Saturday! A question about Todo Lo Que Sube; what is the dark past that Ryan is dragging around?

in the post that i tagged as Ryancore i was imagining arc 4 Ryan, when he escapes his prison and reunites with Agnes, but after being trapped for basically a decade he's gone quite mad, wanting revenge for the things he had to live while trapped above any rational thing. the dark past mentioned would be the growth and rise of the underground empire he built during arc 2, aka his golden age. he commited and orchestrated a lot of crimes while he was in charge of his organization; that's the past he drags alongside him and won't let him go, even after he's deterred from exacting revenge on his captors

in his story, he doesn't really have a dark past before he starts his crime sindicate. he was just a lawyer-in-the-making that moved to the US to escape Spain's Civil War

Happy STS! October is coming up! What do your OCs do to celebrate spooky season?

as always, i'll be using my picker wheel to choose five OCs at random

also oops answering this in november. better late than never i guess lol

Ryan: he's too busy living his story to celebrate. BUUUT. i'm dragging him out of the story for the sake of this ask. he'd be too busy working for celebrating- NOPE I SAID NO WORK. hmmm. he considers himself too mature for trick or treating or costumes, so i think he'd just go bar hopping for the night

Lee: FREE CANDY EVERYWGHERE??¿??? he'd end up with a tummy ache if he weren't a magical animal lmao. eats alllll the candy, wrapper included. post-halloween food comma and nausea assured

Agnes: gets drunk. alternatively and more importantly more healthily Eric invites her to Léan's school costume party and she gets some eyebags and fake blood painted in her face. she looks at herself and thinks "that's not how blood looks". Eric tells her to let it slide

Lewis: oh he LIKES festivities. probably dresses up as a mad scientist (classic, low effort) or as a specific scientist he's studied about, or could dress up as a concept he's studied about, or an animal he's studied. reminds me of Sheldon Cooper (i know, cringe) when he dressed up as the doppler effect. something nerdy on those lines :]

Bug: they don't need a costume. probably attempts to get drunk (chimeralmas aren't really affected by poisons like other living creatures are) then crashes a party by transforming to its real form, caos ensues. alternatively, takes advantage of their small human frame to scare people on the streets, posing as a lost child to any human brave enough to approach and interact with them :)

Thanks: A bit of color rose to his face, and he looked away with a weak smile. "No-no, one hug is- is enough, thanks." He didn't complain about having to lay down; he was extremely tired and in pain after all; laying down was the most comfortable for him. He stared at the ceiling for a bit. He had so many questions fluttering in his mind. "...How long was I out? When did you find me?" He grasped the sheets with his hands. "What... what day is it?" He'd lost count of the passage of days a long time ago.

Ryan wakes up after being found on the verge of death on the side of a mexican road and meets again with one of his old coworkers

Run: She was a civilian. She had no reason to attack her. But reason was way too far from Agnes' mind at the moment. She gritted her teeth in a snarl. One more body to the count. No one would care. Self defense, survival. It was justified. She needed to survive. She swinged the knife in front of her out of frustration. "Shut up!! I ain't letting you run off!!" There was no warning. She sprinted at the woman, knife ready in her hand, but her body and mind had reached their limits. Her leg gave in mid-step, she tumbled to a side, losing balance as her consciousness abandoned her.

a young Agnes is assaulted in an alley and mistakes a civilian (@femur-bandit's Sophian) for an assailant before fainting due to blood loss

Silence: The device Lisabel was holding started beeping, not unlike a geiger counter, getting readings of some kind. "Curious name," she simply commented. For a second, both Agnes and her stand stood still, observing their foes carefully. Lisabel interjected impatiently. "Well? What does it look like?" Agnes twisted her mouth, hiding her annoyance. "Thin, humanoid. Made of tubes." A short silence. "It hums like a machine." This seemed to pique Lisabel's interest, who pocketed her device to get to writing on her clipboard. "Alright, proceed." Agnes hummed, and Twist the Knife hunched over, readying and throwing a punch with its right glove at Joan of Arc's chest.

A snippet, on this day of the week?

a longer thing today, and for a villain!TLQS AU no less!

“That was glorious!” Ryan entered his apartment through the balcony glass door, big smile on his face. “All according to plan! We exterminated them for sure! About damn time, too.” A dirty Agnes followed behind as Ryan flopped into his big sofa, throwing his cane to a side and comfortably spreading his limbs.

“And you, you played your part perfectly too! Distracting them long enough for me to activate the explosives. You were beautiful out there, my dear, just beautiful.” He did a chef’s kiss to the air while she took off her battle gauntlets and helmet in silence. Her suit was dirty, full of debris and concrete dust. It’d take at least two washings to get all the dirt off. And the scrapes. Those would be expensive to repair, she thought, despite money not being a problem to her anymore. Perks of working for one of the richest people of the city. Still, she kept silent. Ryan turned his head around, surprised at the lack of response from her. “What? What’s wrong, Aggie?” She gritted her teeth. “I just told you you did a great job, didn’t I? Aren’t you gonna–” He didn’t have time before Agnes walked up to him and grabbed him by the expensive, spotless shirt he was wearing. “You fucking DIPSHIT!! You detonated the building with ME inside!!” she snapped at him. His eyes went wide for a second before a not-so-confident smile made it to his face. “I-I did, yes, it was all calculated, part of the pla–AAH!” he yelped as she shook him. “‘Part of the plan’?? You PLANNED to BURY ME ALIVE down there?!” “Of course not, I knew you’d come back unharme–GHK–!!” he struggled to talk when she put her hand on his neck, pressing her thumb into his throat. They were alone at the moment, no more henchmen on watch after the mission had finished, no more allies to please, no more people to witness or stop what was happening. “Listen here and listen closely, you fucking asshole. Next time you put me in such danger without even telling me a single word of it, it’s over for you.” He tried swallowing, but the finger just dug deeper into his windpipe. “I’m not one of your other toys you can wave around. Unlike you, I’ve got bills to pay and people to care about, y’hear me? I can’t allow myself to die in one of your stupid flashy stunts like the one you just pulled.” She breathed heavily, then slowly released some of the pressure on Ryan’s throat before throwing him to the floor. He scrambled on all fours, his eyes jittering, as fresh air re-entered his lungs. Before he could catch a break, Agnes grabbed his collar again, lifting him just enough for her to whisper in his ear. “If you think you being my boss is gonna stop me from putting you in your place, you’re very wrong. You put me in a position like that again, you won’t live to tell the tale. Got it?” Still recovering from being choked, the man simply nodded, clouded eyes avoiding hers. “Good.” She dropped him offhandedly, and he fell to the waxed floor once again, landing on his forearms to break the fall. He heard her pick up her gear and slam the front door behind her as she left the room. Sometimes he questioned himself, the day he recruited her. She was hot-tempered but obedient, blunt but loyal, yet he knew she wasn’t bluffing. She could and would hurt him if he stepped out of line. If it were anyone else, he would’ve dealt with them a long time ago; he wasn’t the permissive kind, after all. But still, he kept her around. Breathing deeply, he sat on the floor, his back resting against the couch’s feet. He couldn’t help but smile. This was why he kept her around; to dance at the edge of the cliff. One wrong step and his most loyal follower would turn against him: a real reminder of the feeble nature of his line of work. He wondered how far he could push her, how much potential he could squeeze out of her before she had enough. He brushed his neck, feeling the marks of her fingers pressed into it, and wondered when his erection would go away.

Happy Storyteller Saturday - where did the Jackal's Knife nickname come from for Agnes?

i guess i haven't explained this one yet huh!

so Ryan's "public" criminal name is the Jackal, or Jack for short, and since Agnes is his personal bodyguard who he's individually trained to be the perfect weapon, she earns the title of the Jackal's Knife, also refering to her narrative role as "the perfect weapon to wield". Ryan molded her to perfectly fit in his hands, thus being called the Jackal's Knife :³
