Something on two Ranma 1/2 characters, Ryoga and Mousse... And how, to my own surprise, I found myself considering Mousse the better person. Because yes, Ryoga most of the time is a kind man who has no trouble helping people or acting polite while Mousse is a prideless jerk who'll do everything when it comes to wooing Shampoo, and they share the same recklessness when it comes to collateral damage (Ryoga casually throwing around his weapons during the initial fights with Ranma and later spamming the Breaking Point, a technique MADE to ruin stuff, while Mousse never stops throwing around his weapons), but when it comes to romantic actions Mousse is, by far, the better person and it's proven by certain things they do with their beloved when given the chance. The first is that Ryoga continuously goes into Akane's room and lets her smother him with his bosom and refuses to come out clean (Ranma is entirely correct in wanting to smack him for this), hinting he may well rape her if he wasn't so shy, while Mousse never even tries to take a PEEK on Shampoo showering. The second comes from two episodes late in the manga, so I warn you for spoilers.
Later in the manga, Ryoga enters in possession of the Koi Fish Rod of Love, an object that looks like a toy fish rod, but if you "catch" a person with the sucker they'll have a koi fish egg-shaped suction mark on them, and as the mark changes shape to a koi larva, then juvenile and then adult the person's love for the one that put the mark on them grows. What did Ryoga do with it? He TRIED TO FISH AKANE. Since this is a Rumiko Takahashi series he got Ranma instead, and eventually was able to "catch" the mark with the Koi Fish Rod of Love and annul its effects before trying to confess his love to Akane but doing it to Ranma (and getting the crap beaten out of him), but he literally tried to brainwash Akane into loving him.
In the final story arc we have the Imprinting Eggs, made by the Phoenix Tribe. If anyone is hit by one they get surrounded by a giant egg, and when the egg hatches or is broken they'll imprint on the first person they see. Kiima uses one to brainwash Shampoo and turn her on the group. Later at Jusendo Shampoo is given the order to kill all intruders, so she uses the Imprinting Eggs to try and brainwash her friends reasoning that if they become her servants then they aren't enemies anymore, but only gets Genma (once everything is done she'll set him free by ordering him to do as he wants, but that's for later). And then, during another fight, Shampoo gets caught in another egg thrown back at her by Ranma, the big egg is cracked, Mousse is the closest person and realizes he can brainwash her into doing anything... And as she comes out he pulls out a MIRROR, refusing to take her as a brainwashed slave.
So yes, when it came to it Ryoga tried to brainwash Akane into becoming his lover and Mousse actively REFUSED to do so (he then cried at the lost chance and called himself an idiot when Shampoo hugged Ranma instead, but when it counted he did the right thing).
