Ryuichi che scopre, ricerca, esprime, senza la sicurezza del definito. Ogni tasto suonato e' una pietruzza che va a formare quel mosaico di solitudini e contemplazioni. Sembrano suoni che entrano tra le fronde degli alberi piu' alti, che modellano il silenzio. Certi suoni vivono in una dimensione di dolcezze subacquee e malinconie siderali. Note che scivolano tra i sensi e i sentimenti.

Le nuvole e gli oceani, l'incantesimo e l'abbandono. Suoni che entrano dentro senza bussare, entrano dentro e fanno dimenticare il mondo. Certe musiche sono quadri di molti quadri, tanti specchi nuovi dove si puo' vedere cio'che non si vede: l'anima. @ilpianistasultetto

Paul Bowles, Paris, November 12, 1990, a month before the premiere of Bertolucci’s Sheltering Sky, (starring John Malkovitch and Debra Wingerin, & music by Ryuichi Sakamoto)  in which Bowles makes a cameo appearance quoting his famous lines from the book:
