Weathering Sector Mechanicus, second batch
Lets start with a detail shot of the end result. You can clearly see the patchy, grainy texture and how nicely the burnt umber stained the Ryza Rust in some areas. I unintentionally changed the recipe. Here is how it happened:
I started the oil wash too late the night before yesterday. There was no time left for dabbing away pigments. The Pipes dried 24 hours this time so that the pigment crust was harder to remove — a sponge was necessary. But the effect was better: less smooth and more grainy.
Above you can see three pipes in different stages. The standing one in the background was primed grey and sprayed silver with spectrum rattle cans and sponged with Citadels Ryza Rust. The pipe on the right received a heavy Burnt Umber oil wash in addition. And the one on the left got some of it rubbed away again. I am really happy with the results of the delayed pigment dabbing/rubbing.
