My sexism is showing? Born female. Also she also whips out attacks she never uses again. One-hit-kills for the battle of BREW and the battle against Medusa near the end of the anime. I don't care about the manga, the manga of anime are always better. Also you get mad about Black*Star swallowing a laser.. Then go and say he's godlike or a god himself. He's powerful because he's trained all his life and because of his heritage.

I’m not mad that Black*Star swallowed a laser. Clearly, I said he’s godlike, in canon, because he is. He is constantly compared to a god and I won’t erase that. I like Black*Star. I find him funny, if not somewhat annoying, but that’s also something that makes him HIM. And if he was perfect and humble and 100% likable, he’d be a bad character.

No, I’m not mad about Black*Star. I am mad that you can accept that Black*Star, born a human just like Maka was, swallowing a laser is somehow more explainable than Maka’s victories in fights. Maka also has trained all her life as well, and her heritage is a Three Star Meister for a Mother and a Death Scythe for a father.

When Maka pulls out Genie Hunter, she can barely control it. Her battle with BREW was won because of group resonance, teamwork, and Maka barely being able to bring Genie Hunter out. And if you want to bring up Black*Star’s heredity, Maka INHERITED Genie Hunter. In the beginning of the series, she can’t even manage Demon Hunter. When she can bring Genie Hunter out against Medusa, it is because she is SO enraged and hurt and FURIOUS that she summons it from emotional desperation ALONE. Her friend is dying in the corner. The person who caused her friend that grief is right in front of her. She was so angry she almost took out STEIN.

Maka bringing out Genie hunter is completely believable and explainable. And she’s super Badass for it, too.

There are, however, inexplainable things, or nonbelievable things, from the MALE characters, like when Kid pulls out the lines of sanzu in the anime seemingly out of nowhere, when UNCONCIOUS. Black*Star can punch things and send them flying, he can, randomly? channel his wavelength against the first fight with Stein and, if Stein didn’t have his extensive experience, would have fried Stein to bits. He can swALLOW A LASER?

But you can forgive those things? You take no issue with that? MAKA FIGHTS FOR HER ACHIEVAMENTS BUT SOME CHARACTERS HAVE THEM HANDED TO THEM AND THAT’S A-OKAY SO LONG AS THOSE CHARACTERS AREN’T FEMALE?

Here’s the thing about sexism: you can be a sexist if you’re a woman. You can be a sexist if you’re nonbinary or male or whatever. And to dislike Maka for things you LIKE and excuse and explain Black*Star for is sexism.

Because men can pull out achievements and have it considered normal, but a woman needs explanations like my own? It’s normal for Black*Star to win fights with ease but for Maka to do it, it’s badly written?
