The Shine OST is so good and the man who produced Halo by Beyonce also worked on it??
The Shine soundtrack is so good and I feel like not enough people are talking about it???
And it's CRAZY that RYAN TEDDER, the frontman of Onerepublic, and one of the highest grossing song writers of the past couple decades was the Executive Producer of the OST for a Thai BL???? Like seriously, this is the man's wikipedia page. The streams for the songs he's written or performed are in the MULTI-BILLIONS. He's worked with basically every pop superstar you can think of Adele, Taylor Swift, Blackpink, etc.
I don't know tons about the music industry, but I know that executive producer means he oversaw the project from start to finish and was deeply involved in the overall direction.
And the songs are BANGERS. Seriously, I'm addicted to Far Side of the Moon, Half of Everything, Am I In Love?, Hold Your Hand, and Dawn. They're all SO good. And they've been releasing a music video each week for the song that was featured the most in that week's episode. PLEASE give these songs a listen if you haven't already.
Here's Half of Everything
and Far Side of the Moon
I also think it's cool that Ryan Tedder and Robert Grace (who was the actual songwriter for a lot of the album) didn't write EVERY song. Like Half of Everything is written/produced/performed by all Thais.
I think this is the most effort and probably money that has been put into a Thai BL OST ever??? If there's another you can think of let me know, but seriously, go through the music videos and the album and you will be impressed.
Now how did BOC get global pop-producing powerhouse Ryan Tedder and his team to work on the album? Clearly Slot Machine is the connection here. If you know Kinnporsche, then you know the iconic Free Fall by Slot Machine. Slot Machine is one of Thailand's most iconic bands. Clearly, doing Free Fall for BOC worked well for them.
They're signed to Tero Music which is the Thai subsidiary of Sony Music, and Sony Music is one of the big three music companies in euro-american markets (and I think also globally??). Ryan Tedder is also signed to Sony Music and is one of their producers. Slot Machine released an english language album in fall 2024, Walk the Earth (also highly recommend) that was also produced by Ryan Tedder and written by Robert Grace. Ryan Tedder at the time said he was a fan of Slot Machine and Thai music.
So I'm guessing BOC asked Slot Machine to do a song again and Slot Machine was then the connection to get Tero Music (Sony) to bring Ryan Tedder onto this project as well.
I wish there was more I could learn about how all of this came about and the process of creating the OST, but I couldn't really find anything besides the writing credits of the songs, the statements that Ryan Tedder and Slot Machine made about collaborating on Walk the Earth. There's like a 1 minute bts of the OST but they don't talk about this at all and don't really show anyone besides like Mile, the director, and Slot Machine's usual songwriter.
