Sometimes I think people don't like to appreciate s6 Cas's very real and central issue with heaven, and blame the Winchesters (read: dean) instead because they're too racist to appreciate the focus on Raphael lol.
Despite being so central to Cas's arc, Raphael basically never shows up in fanworks either. I thought y'all liked if a Black man was evil at least idk? Lol. S6 cas angst was about Heaven and his issues with them coming to a head.
His main conflict with Dean is his inner conflict about wanting him close, wanting him safe, wanting to use him and be ruthless and vengeful towards Heaven, wanting to never show up to Dean, wanting to undo the grave and real injustices Heaven has done to three Winchesters, wanting Dean to like him and to want him, etc. He has all of these wants at once and it confused the fuck out of him. Dean is also going through chaos so they just keep together and shooting sparks but there's actually so much tenderness between them. Even amidst Cas's lies and anger and hubris, there was so much love too.
But the real main conflict of this arc is how he handles Heaven. It was never about the Winchesters being ungrateful or whatever.
Like. Cas is more aware of his accountability than the fandom is lol.
