Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: You take some time to spend with your favorite person.
Author’s Note: I felt sad and had a little idea so now all of you have to suffer too. I wrote it in like 15 minutes so it’s short, sorry.
Warnings: This is straight up angst, don’t be fooled.
The sun was warm on your face, bright in the cloudless sky. It was fall, normally chilly this time of year, but today was bright and the wind was kind and gentle as it kissed your cheeks.
Leaves crunched under your boots as you made your way through the field, following the stone path like you always did.
The nice weather made today all the better. It was the kind of weather that made you want to spend time with your favorite person, so that’s what you’d decided to do.
You’d spent the day with Bucky, your favorite person by far.
You’d talked with him, planted flowers— peach tulips, your favorites. Bucky always said he liked them too, so you’d brought them to plant together. You’d talked about old times, laughing and recalling silly memories together as you packed the dirt around the last bulb, smiling down at your work before you pulled out a few wipes and cleaned up before setting out the picnic you’d brought.
A sigh left you as you plopped down onto the blanket, fishing out the sandwiches you’d backed and unwrapping one. “I know it’s a little late to be planting flowers, especially with the cold coming, but they looked pretty and it just felt like the perfect activity for today.”
Bucky’s chuckle carried on the breeze, and you smiled to yourself at the sound.
“Maybe they’ll live, who knows! We can just plant them again next year if they don’t, right?” You shook your head, still smiling. “Yeah, I’ll just bring more next year. It can be our new thing. We can plant a whole garden and drive your allergies crazy.”
He laughed again, and it stirred butterflies in your stomach and made your eyes sting.
You leaned back, closing your eyes and letting the last rays of the setting sun soak into your skin as you sat in the comforting silence.
It was moments like these you enjoyed spending with Bucky the most. You both enjoyed the quiet, easy moments. You’d always end up together when things finally slowed down at the tower, or when you’d both have a day off at the same time. It was these kinds of things you’d end up doing. Just random impulsive things you’d normally never do but did just for the joy of doing it together.
“Well, I’m sure I’ll be getting calls soon.” You pushed off the ground, dusting yourself off and gathering your things. “I enjoyed today. Always do when I spend them with you, Buck.”
You reached over, smiling as you dusted the dirt off his face and made sure he looked good as new. “I’ll visit with you next weekend. Same day, same time.”
Leaning down, you placed a lingering kiss on the cold black marble. It made you miss his warmth, but this would do. Pulling away to gaze down at the neatly carved letters that accompanied a picture of the two of you, you whispered to the wind. “Love you, James.”
