What you are missing by skipping My Universe
You are missing two of the most heartwrenching and incredibly painful stories I have come across in my 8 years of watching BL and Queer stories. Yes, I am talking about Right Time Right You and 1626.
They are BOTH directed by Sandwich Parnupong, who before diving into actually directing has been an acting coach for half of the industry. He believes in his craft and is good at it to the point where the acting in TWINS is sublime despite the show being a hot mess.
So let's talk Right Time Right You
Elevator pitch: "What would happen if two love maniacs met?" Broken hearted boy who hates love meets boy in love.
If you don't have the BALLS to watch slow cinema and experience the most excruciating part of a breakup in real time literally stay in the dark and don't watch it. But if you dO...let me tell you what your in for. Phat just broke up with his alcoholic boyfriend and returns to Thailand to seek refuge and comfort. He washes up at his friends house where she lives with her younger brother Mok, who is irrevocably in love with Phat and always has been.
Mok and Mei (his sister) will try anything to make Phat smile again as you can taste the hot afternoons that melt like butter in the summer heat. You will meet characters that are as complex as they are real. The bad guy is not the bad guy on purpose, and change does not mean forgiveness, and love does not heal all wounds.
I cannot stress enough how good this is. Nothing is in your face, you're just a stranger glimpsing into the most painful chapter, and there's a whole scene where there's a dumb boy barking on the floor and it has still managed to be the one of the saddest scenes on the history of television. WATCH IT FUCKERS it broke me so much I cannot bear to watch it again because I want to keep that first heartbreak feeling.
WATCH IT if you know love hurts
WATCH IT if you think things could be extreaordinary
WATCH IT if you're a love maniac
WATCH IT if you know some homes are not forever
WATCH IT if you sometimes believe in magic
WATCH IT is you wish upon stars
WATCH IT if you want to believe again
Next time I'll talk 1626, because nobody fucking understood that show
