Hey if it’s still honesty hour? In your opinion what can people do/what is the next step for working against the insulin price crisis for your average joe? Is it just awareness? Is there legislation to be pushed for?
My last ask talked about legislation, which there is around! I think spreading awareness about specific things is really good, and would recommend everyone follows @/lollydaggle and @/kidfears99 on twitter bc they're old school advocates who are VERY smart
Secondly, mutual aid is the thing that helps people in the immediate, and something I always try to get more people engaged in. There's an insulin black market that I can talk more about in DMs, but that's usually only useful for other diabetics who have supplies to share.
The other big thing is GoFundMe and PayPal links being shared and donated to whenever anyone can. I always try to drop at least $5 whenever I see someone in need of insulin. And if you end up following some of these diabetic advocates, when we have situations like we did 2 weeks ago, where someone needed to raise $700 in one night so they could get emergency insulin, the more people who are watching that, giving whatever little amount they can, and sharing it around, the better :)
Also, if you're ever donating money, make sure it's to an actual struggling diabetic and not an organization, because even with the good orgs, that money's not going where it could be the most useful
