Being Human (US) - 1x01
Anpu finally got a little space to share with Bast and a bunch of little things that weren't on the altar got found. Still missing our kyanite :( Cinna shed so Wesir got an offering. And it's balls day so I lit Set's candle and offered him the 18$ I found in my pants pocket this morning. And incense for everyone. Coins for tawaret since I need a favor from her again to watch out for our niece and sister in law.

Almost Time
On her way to her new home, Celana ran into those who she would least expect. It's been years since she had last seen them. Denko and Shadow.
"Oh, Denko! Didn't expect to meet you so soon!" She takes a moment for his sheer appearance to set in. The tall Zeraora flashes a smile, before noticing the baby sleeping in Celana's arms.
"Horah?" Denko points to the Zeraora just below her chest, which she chuckles at.
"Long story. His name is Saiden and he was a stray back in Unova. Found him just a few days ago, actually. And hello, Shadow! How're you doing?"
Ren gives a sigh. He had a lot to say, but nothing past surface level would get through to Celana. Thankfully, she understood and just left it at that.
"You've gotten... very big!" Not only was Denko 6 '10, but his build was comparable to some of the beefy men back at her job who were just lean enough to be considered attractive. Denko lets out a quick purr in response.
"Anyways, it's really nice to meet you two again! I'll be living here for a while, so we'll be seeing each other more often!" Shadow lets out a smile as Celana walks past, continuing towards her new home.
"Who was that?" Denko asked, out of Celana's range.
Ren frowned. "An old friend of Colin... After he died, she gave up on her journey, released all her pokemon, and moved to Unova..."
"Oh, that's... sad." Denko's tone clearly showed that he hadn't meant it in the mocking form that the phrase usually takes. He still had multiple questions regarding this Colin character, though Ren had been hesitant during the trip back. He was more talkative regarding Striker, however, yet the two never got anywhere in terms of where he might be.
Celana entered her new Galarian household for the first time to see all the essentials moved in for her. All the furniture she brought along had been reassembled practically overnight. It helped that she hadn't brought much furniture to begin with, though it was still impressive.
All the decor was still boxed up in the garage, though that was something she would get to later on. For now, she opened her laptop to a webpage detailing how one takes care of a feline pokemon. It was gonna be a long day.
Denko and Ren arrived at the apartment complex, with Ren admiring the lobby. It has certainly been a while since he'd last been here. Even so, it was all too familiar. The structure of the lobby hadn't changed a bit in the past few years.
Denko headed straight for the tablet, knowing Ren wouldn't remember how to use it, and called the elevator for the two. Despite the measures taken to ensure out-of-ball pokemon could make full use of it, the elevator was still a bit small for the big Zeraora. It was thankfully never a big deal, he could just lower his head for a bit.
The two exited onto the 11th floor and walked forwards before they came across a door marked '113'. This was something Ren definitely recalled, though not because of the number. There was a decal of a Cinderace's recognizable head. It had certainly been a while since he had seen a Cinderace, much less talked to one.
The door opened to an even more familiar sight for Ren. The apartment's layout, furniture, even the decor remained the same throughout the years he's been gone. It sparked a certain sadness in Ren's eyes, though laying eyes on Blaze only made the feeling more apparent.
"Re- Shadow? It's been so long!"
"Ren is... fine..." The Zoroark managed to sputter out before tears began flowing from his eyes. Not a moment after that Blaze didn't envelope him in a hug. His illusioned body faded letting the two see his true form. Denko joined in the hug, albeit softly.
After the hugfest, Ren got a chance to share his experience out in the world during his quest to find Striker.
"Never even found a hint," he somberly concluded. Ren had traveled far and wide, though not even Dialga could help him. Even Denko tried to reach Striker's father when the two finally met, though it amounted to nothing.
"Ah... Well, at least there's another pair of eyes looking out for him." Blaze was always the one to try to keep the mood up, even if no one else shared her positivity. Thankfully, her son was one that did.
"Yeah. Eventually we'll find him, I promise."
"Denko, you don't need to promise anything. Whether you find him or not, we'll love you just the same." Blaze lowered the Zeraora's head to give him a kiss on the cheek.
It was at this time that Zera walked into frame from the upstairs bedroom. Once she saw Ren, her body halted for a moment to let things sink in. She hadn't seen this Zoroark for years, so she would naturally take a moment for it to set in. After the initial shock, though, she's quick to calm herself.
"Long time no see, Ren. Where have you been?"
"Been looking for Striker, same as Denko. Nothing new, unfortunately." Ren formed a frown. He wanted the day he returned to be the day that he had found Striker, but today was not that day.
Zera gave a sigh. Being a Zeraora, she was far more protective of just about anyone else. The day Ren left to search for Striker, she had tried to go after, though couldn't find anything due to Ren's own illusion abilities. It was nice to finally see him again, though she was fairly passive-aggressive.
Within the nearby forest, two fox-like creatures scoured for berries. One of them was incredibly familiar, though the other seemed completely new at first glance. Upon closer inspection, though, it was obvious who these two were.
Cynthia and Celphix.
After years of enhancing her power without worry of an organization out to get her, Cynthia had finally accepted who she had become. That wouldn't have been possible without Celphix's love and support.
The two had been tested on by the same people, though they had very different experiences after their life changing events. Cynthia would discover that her tormentors had gotten to her parents and made them completely vanish from the face of the earth. With no one to return to, she escaped into the forests of Galar, staying hidden and making sure no one knew of her existence.
Celphix, on the other hand, was able to return to her parents soon after her escape. By that point, her tormentors' experiments had become so numerous that they couldn't afford to leave zero trace of the subject's relatives.
The two didn't meet by chance. They united from similar interests, sure, but they met due to a common encounter. Colin. Striker's late trainer was the glue that held mostly everyone together.
While Celphix's chance encounter with the avid trainer sparked Cynthia's interest in her, it was she herself that made the first move. Due to that, Celphix never got to know Colin quite like everyone else, meaning the direct impact Colin's death had on her was very little.
By that point, Cynthia and Celphix had fallen in love and swore never to break apart. Well, Cynthia fell into a sudden depression and nearly did so to deal with her feelings alone.
Celphix put her paw on the other's shoulder and promised she would stay by her side. Five years later, that promise has yet to be broken.
Once they found a batch of their favorite berries, the two sat next to each other at the base of a tree and began to snack.
"I'm really glad we're together," Celphix said to break the silence.
"Yeah. I'm sorry about almost leaving all those years ago..."
"Don't sweat it. I know a lot was on your mind, and I was willing to help in any way possible. Still am, so if you need someone to comfort you, I'll always be by your side."
"Thanks, darling... I can't imagine where I'd be if I had gone through with it."
"Don't think about that, think about where you are right now."
That certainly lifted the mood among the two, as the fox hybrids smiled and enjoyed their early snack.
Celana was now unpacking some of her personal belongings, now that she ordered a bunch of supplies to assist with taking care of a cat.
Within a box marked 'DO NOT TRASH', a certain framed picture was piled on top of everything else. It was an old photo of Colin and Striker. Celana took it out, admiring it with some sad nostalgia.
Colin had become her best friend since she moved here from Kalos, as well as a great rivaling trainer alongside the third member of their trio, Hop. The three had drifted apart even prior to Colin's death, and the event only made the remaining two move away even more.
In the midst of her thoughts, Saiden purred in curiosity. He reached for the frame, wanting to inspect it.
"This? It's a photo of some old friends... I'd rather not..." Her words softened to a mere whisper as she lowered the frame.
"Zehr!" Saiden seemed transfixed on the Cinderace, much to Celana's surprise. He seemed to... recognize Striker. How?
"You... know Striker?" The kitten looked up curiously, before looking back at the photo. Saiden definitely seemed to recognize him, though not by name.
"This is... huge! I... nevermind. It'd be a lot for you, and it can wait." Her response was a confused purr from the feline. Saiden seemed intrigued, but he respected Celana's wishes.
The framed photo was set on a ledge below where her television had been installed. Saiden glanced over at it, still curious. His concerns shifted more to Celana as she slowly sat on the couch. The feline saw tears leave her eyes, so he climbed up to her face to better comfort her, which was very appreciated.
A few hours after, Celana would get a knock on the door from none other than Cynthia, who had changed WILDLY since the last time they had seen each other. The fox hybrid now looked more like a ninetales than a human. She almost didn't even recognize her!
"Celana, right? It's been a while!"
"Yeah, it has! I can tell you've gotten a makeover!"
"I suppose so! You've definitely changed a bit, too!" Of course, Cynthia noticed the small cat in Celana's arms, and he did not go unnoticed.
"Aww, who've you got here?" She crouched somewhat to be level with Saiden, before giving him a small head rub.
"His name is Saiden. Found him alongside a walkway back at campus, and he prevented me from taking finals," She chuckles. Cynthia returns the chuckle as Saiden looks up at his human curiously.
Subconsciously, the fox peers into the Zeraora's mind and finds that he's trying to say that he's sorry. Her smile almost fades, but she retains a positive expression and discloses her reasons for swinging by.
"You want me to show you around town? It's definitely been a while since you've lived here."
"Blaze gave me a map, I'm good. You want to come in?" Cynthia was surprised by the offer, as Celana had only officially moved in the day before, but she accepted it and followed behind the other.
There hadn't been much more work done, a few more personal belongings and clothes put up, but nothing too major. Nonetheless, Cynthia liked the vibe it gave off. It was roomy yet not too full, like Celphix's place where Cynthia had been living for a few years.
"Sorry about all the clutter, I've mostly been chilling with Saiden." The two share another chuckle as the feline cuddles up against Celana's chest. They enter the family room and settle on the couch, Celana grabbing a remote to turn on the TV.
"You want me to help?" Cynthia offers, but Celana was quick to decline. It was her house, and it seemed the fox girl just wanted to chill. She wasn't gonna object to that.
The feline looked towards the television, seemingly invested in whatever was playing, though Cynthia was informed, looking into his mind, that something else had his attention. It was that framed photo sitting below the set; of Striker and Colin.
"Hey, Saiden seems interested in something up there." She points out the photo, in which Celana sighs. No words came from her mouth, but Cynthia knew what she wanted to say. She let out an audible gasp, drawing Saiden's attention.
"Cynthia, I really don't wanna drag him into this..."
"Don't worry, he's not gonna be the one searching for him. He doesn't even have to answer to Blaze or Zera or anyone like that. I can take his answers from his mind and relay them to the ones who want to know." That only makes Celana more anxious, and even without her mind reading ability it was obvious to Cynthia. The fox's face turns apologetic. "Sorry..."
"It's... alright. How have you and Celphix been?" Celana moved past the moment fairly quickly, and changed the topic to something that both would be better off discussing for the rest of their time together.
A few hours passed, and Celana was alone with Saiden and her thoughts. Cynthia hadn't mentioned the photo since she expressed her worry, though the feline was still curious. What was so bad about it?
All that mattered to him, though, was comforting Celana. She was just a mess of emotions. Conflicted about Saiden recognizing the Cinderace from seemingly very recently, worried that it would result in the feline being dragged into something he doesn't understand, and just... sad.
The reasons for her sadness were a mix in and of itself. Worrying about her future as a college dropout, fearing that she's not ready to care for a pokemon, and remembering those shown on the photo under the television.
'That Cinderace... I recognize them.' Blaze's eyes went wide as Cynthia transmitted the thought going through Saiden's head the only time the photo was pointed out.
Understandably, Blaze was completely speechless. Not even her mind could form any comprehensible reaction. Her father, who she had lost contact with for years, was still out there and active. Going as to how young the kitty was, the recognition must have been very recent.
Blaze promised to keep the information a secret, even from Zera herself. She was sure neither Celana nor Saiden were ready to be pulled into a search that has lasted almost half a decade.
That night, Saiden had managed to wiggle out of Celana's arms to get another close look at the photo, almost like he was compelled by some outside force.
Despite being a mere toddler, he knew to be incredibly careful. His target seemed incredibly important to Celana, and he didn't want to be the reason for it to break.
He carefully descends the stairway from Celana's room to the main room where the television was. It was just barely light enough to see, so Saiden proceeded with extreme caution, slowly climbing up the fireplace below the ledge where the photo sat.
There it was, just around his size. It was too dark to see any specific details, but he subconsciously lit his eyes for some night vision, just like Cynthia's own night vision. There, he could see the photo in all of its glory.
Nothing about the Cinderace in the photo spoke to him now. Maybe he just recognized them as someone else...
Then, he caught sight of those blue eyes. The blue eyes he knew so well. That was the point when he knew; he met this Cinderace.
...
Around half a year ago, the baby feline was with his former parent. Yet another Zeraora, with Saiden's exact color scheme. The parent usually never let the kitten far from their sight, though some lack of supervision would ultimately save the little one's life.
After their interference in a disaster far west of Unova, Zeraora would stick around a nearby city in case anything would happen again. Time passed, and the feline began drifting from populated areas, seeing that nothing had or will have happened. This was their preferred lifestyle, anyways.
Despite the lonesome lifestyle Zeraora had gotten so used to, they couldn't deny that they were starting to feel lonely. All the attention the feline received during their time at the city was certainly nice, and made them not see humans as environmental trashers, but it was too temporary. They needed something more permanent to fill that void, though the Zeraora wasn't planning on becoming a trainer's pokemon.
The solution? Become a parent.
Through... some unknown method, the Zeraora was able to create an egg using their DNA. It wasn't long before the egg hatched, resulting in a tiny Zeraora kitten. The parent cherished him and would go out of their way to make sure he felt safe in any new environment. It was truly magical, and the Zeraora knew this was what would fill the void.
One stormy day, the two were out collecting bolts for the little one. They weren't incredibly successful, due to being largely on foot, though the parent would finally catch one as the strikes became less frequent. The Zeraora flashed a smile at their baby, who mirrored the expression and began taking in the energy from the lightning, producing an electric aura spanning the general area.
Once that was done, the kitten whined for more, before whining about being carried throughout. Being someone who only wants their child to be comfortable, they make the decision to set him down and collect electricity for the kitten.
Where they predicted the next strike, though, there were a group of hunters poised and ready to capture the mythical feline. They were gonna dip out, but they needed the strike for the kitten waiting where they had told him to wait.
The hunters sent out their pokemon and attacked the feline, though Zeraora was quick and took one out, quickly being replaced by another. Slowly, but surely, Zeraora was whittled down. Knowing they were about to be defeated, he let out a scream for the little one.
'RUN'
The kitten heard, but didn't follow his parent's directions. Rather, he followed the voice, worried for their safety. What was going on?
The predicted bolt came and went without any electric cat to absorb it. The kitten caught a view of his parent knocked down in front of the hunters, and yelped in distress. The noise caused the larger feline to jerk back up, only to be completely knocked out and killed.
The feline couldn't run. He couldn't even turn, even as the hunters approached him from the yelp, intent on capturing the weaker Zeraora. Tears flowing, he curls into a ball and awaits his fate.
But it never comes.
A figure appears in front of him, seemingly another pokemon. They look behind the hunters to see the dead feline, and... the humans suddenly collapse. He didn't know what he was seeing, but he began to slowly approach the figure.
The blue aura surrounding the presence dissipates to reveal a Cinderace, breathing heavily from the one-sided battle. The bunny turns towards the kitten, their eyes filled with sorrow.
'I'm sorry, little one...' They take a knee, lowering their head to the feline's level. A smile began to form, despite what had just happened.
'Heh... Don't worry, you'll be in good hands...' They set a paw on the baby's head, trying their best to reassure the mourning feline. 'Go... you'll be safer to the east...'
The baby smiles looking into the Cinderace's eyes, seemingly aware of their immense power coursing through their veins, and runs off to the east, towards Unova.
...
This Cinderace... they were the one that saved him from those humans that killed the feline that raised him...
'Thank you...' he purred, approaching in an attempt to hug the photo. The attempt did not end well, resulting in the frame collapsing and falling to the floor. The protective glass over the photo nearly dragged him with, though he managed to catch himself on the edge of the surface.
The glass shattering was ear piercing, jolting the human upstairs awake. Celana's worry increased exponentially when she discovered Saiden was nowhere to be seen in her room.
"Saiden!?" She activates her phone's light in haste and rushes down the stairs, only to see her feline trying to climb back up to stable ground.
A sigh of relief knowing Saiden was alright, though it wasn't long before she discovered what had caused the sharp noise. She ran over to the feline to get him down, but she was interrupted by a cutting pain in the palm of her foot. Despite this, Celana bore through the pain to ensure Saiden was safe.
The feline was trembling with fear as he was set down onto the ottoman, before Celana looked at her foot. Glass cuts. She feared she knew what had broken. The color drained from her face as she pointed her light towards the area of impact.
There it was, the framed photo of Colin and Striker. She began to breathe heavily, holding back tears. It was all too tempting to grab the frame, but that would only pose more risk. Instead, her tears landed on the shivering Saiden being enveloped in a hug.
They find themselves on the same couch that Celana had passed out on, the first indication that their shared nightmare had been real. The frame on the ground, the glass cover shattered to pieces, was the second and final indication.
The pain of Celana's cuts returned, so her first priority was to bandage up and clean the blood stains she'll inevitably leave. Once that's done, she takes a deep breath.
"What's wrong, Saiden?" Her voice wasn't hostile, but it wasn't too solemn either. The feline's ears drooped as he lowered himself apologetically.
A smile leaks from Celana in response to the gesture. She couldn't be mad at him at this age. Instead, she lowers onto the ottoman next to the feline and massages his head.
She takes a breath, about to say something, but hesitates. Saiden doesn't know what the whole deal is with the Cinderace shown, and Celana didn't exactly want it explained.
Nonetheless, she continues.
"Would you want to know who that Cinderace is...?" Saiden's ears perked up as he slowly raised his head to look at the human. His expression was one of pure curiosity. Soon after, he nodded.
...
Celana was lucky enough to obtain an official starter from the newly crowned champion himself, Leon. She received the last one available, a Sobble that quickly livened up to the new trainer.
It was soon after that she met the men who had received starters shortly before her; Hop and Colin, choosing Grookey and Scorbunny, respectively. The three would become friendly rivals, battling often to see how everyone else has been doing.
She liked seeing the growth of her own and Hop's pokemon, though Colin seemed to always be a few steps ahead. It didn't look like overtraining, his rabbit was always ahead of the game, even ahead of their own trainer at times!
Even so, Colin never objected whenever his starter, Striker, made his own decisions in battle. In fact, he openly encouraged it, even if it seemed he was about to lose. Incredibly, Striker rarely lost, so it was strange when Colin and his team kept losing the Galarian championship, even so far as taking second place.
Hop and Celana took the tournament far more seriously, having every intention to come out on top. The three distanced from one another, Celana and Hop training independently while Colin did who knows what. The crown of champion was passed around incredibly often, before Celana managed to win the crown against Colin himself.
The two shook hands after the intense fight. Despite losing once again, the opposing trainer never frowned once. It was almost disturbing to the winner, so she made sure to ask what was up.
This was when she learned Colin had found joy far surpassing the adrenaline of battle, a husband in the form of the very pokemon he started his journey with. Not only that, the two had a daughter and 'knew a lot more', as Striker had put it.
He wasn't battling to win, as he had already won in his eyes. That was all Celana knew for now.
The next tournament, Colin was nowhere to be found, not even in the audience. It was clear he hadn't opted out or been replaced, as there was a clear blank spot in the brackets graphic.
The unexplained absence of her friend was certainly off putting, enough to where she lost her title from losing too much focus, wondering where Colin and Striker had gone. Her opponent certainly noticed, though she had figured why.
The news hit everyone like a truck. Colin had suddenly passed away due to circumstances that weren't disclosed, though Celana would soon learn what had happened. The next tournament, she sat out in order to process everything, while also being there for the family, consisting of Striker, his daughter, her wife, and their newborn Zeraora.
The elder Cinderace was definitely the one impacted the most, being the husband of the late trainer. Celana had made attempts to approach the mourning rabbit, though they were always unsuccessful.
A few months in, it seemed everyone had gotten over the shock of the death, now picking up the rest of the pieces. Striker, though, never seemed to get over it. He was always distant, even from Blaze.
Celana assumed he was still mourning, though she never had time to think too much about it. She was dealing with a lot of shit, herself. Having released her pokemon due to not feeling motivated to battle, she was kicked out of the Competitor's Quarters and had to move back to Kalos.
Thankfully, she managed to pick up a part time job as a model, as well as being able to continue her studies prior to her move. She was just finishing up her primary studies, and started looking for a college to attend.
The first school to accept her had been the University of Unova, which was a surprise. It was a huge university and required a high GPA.
She jumped at the chance, making sure to put in her two weeks at her side gig. Maybe there was a modeling agency overseas that would be interested in her?
She returns to Galar in order to say goodbye to Striker, though he was completely absent. Not even Blaze knew where he had gone. The remaining Cinderace did give Celana her phone number so they could stay in touch.
With that, the student boards a plane to Mistralton City, not expecting to look back.
...
The kitten lays his head on one of Celana's legs, trying to process everything. It certainly was a lot, though he... managed.
The human gave a sigh as she concluded. It was nice to finally say all that, even if the only listener didn't completely understand or even hear all of it.
A minute of silence passed.
"Zeh."
"Hm?" Celana glances down at Saiden, pointing at the broken frame containing the picture. "Ah, yeah. I should probably clean that up.."
"Zeh!"
Oh, did he not mean that? "What is it?"
The kitten points to his mind, a gesture that meant the last thing Celana had wanted.
"You... want to help?" Her eyes go wide as Saiden nods his head. He wanted Celana to have a chance to say goodbye to the Cinderace.
Tears nearly escape her eyes as she makes eye contact with Saiden's own. That was the look of determination Colin and Striker always had during their journey.
A smile forms on her face, steadily growing the longer that expression was in her sight.
"Okay! I'll call up Cynthia!"
...
"Do you know this Cinderace?" Blaze held up a copy of the photo for Saiden to see. Cynthia was to the side, ready to relay the feline's thoughts to everyone; Blaze, Celana, Zera, Denko, and Ren. They all wanted to see Striker after years of his absence, and this was the first real lead they had.
The events from half a year ago flashed through Saiden's head, being pulled by Cynthia and transmitted to everyone else. Everyone was shocked to see Striker's new look, though not as surprised as Blaze. She remained in disbelief even after the memories had ended.
This form... It was Shining Striker, only achievable by the trainer and Cinderace synchronizing their thoughts and fusing their bond into an unstoppable force. How could Striker become this unstoppable force without Colin?
"Huh, did they ever do a fusion dance from Dragon Ball?" Denko interrupted her thoughts, revealing that Cynthia had been transmitting her thoughts as well.
"Wh- Cynthia, please don't do that!" The hybrid gave a chuckle, transmitting one more thing to Denko's mind. The feline burst out laughing.
A few moments of calming the two down, they all contributed their knowledge of Striker to hopefully figure out where he may be. Blaze was the biggest contributor, seeing as she had known him the longest, and even had a theory about Shining Striker.
"Shining Striker was a form he and Colin used to take to increase their power incredibly. It may have just been a portion of what he would eventually be able to do," She states. "Now that he's achieved that form by himself, it makes sense to assume he has been training himself."
"Training? For what?" Celana had a lot of questions on her mind, none of which she had any clue about.
"For the day he takes Dialga's place."
