To say Maria should feel obligated to tell the guy whose been there for her more than anyone has in years to take a hike for the sake of a friend who has been gone for most of a decade? I don't think Maria wants to hurt Alex, but she also really needs someone right now and the person whose stood up and offered is Michael. I think it's understandable why she would choose that.

“more than anyone has been in years” really, really makes a lot of assumptions about ten years of canon that we know nothing about. Wtf is with this obsession with portraying Alex as a shitty friend and Michael as some saint? Then again, I guess it comes down to how much you value a friendship of fifteen years compared to a guy who regularly stiffs you on the bar tab. 

Then again, Michael coming to Maria doesn’t really have much to do with him offering to be there for her; he literally came to her to use her to forget about his own trauma. 

Plus, I’m really, really not a fan of the way we’re talking about Alex being gone for most of a decade as, like, him just running off like Liz and not, you know, a guy in the military who is required to go where they send him. As far as we can tell, Alex has been there for Maria as much as he can considering the requirements of his job, and saying that makes him a bad friend, especially knowing the reasons why he enlisted, is frankly pretty shitty.

Character Asks: Rosa Ortecho

How I feel about this character

Rosa is a character that didn’t leave a huge impression on me in the show, but that fandom and fanon and fic has made me really, really enjoy. I have read some really fabulous fics where Rosa is sarcastic and funny and delightful and it makes me excited to get to know her better in season 2. 

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Nobody, really. Not saying I couldn’t or won’t, but I don’t currently have any shippy feelings re: Rosa. Nor do I really see any of our current characters as viable options for her, but maybe someone new will come along!

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I really loved that one Anonymous fic where Rosa and Michael were friends and hookup buddies in high school, and I would love to see them as friends in the future. I’d also love to see Rosa and Alex’s dynamic. And of course, I am going to raise hell if they keep her resurrection from Arturo forever, because goddamnit I need Arturo to get his daughter back. Tell him about aliens or just act like it’s a miracle, I don’t care. And of course Kyle! I want to see Kyle get to know his sister!

My unpopular opinion about this character

Hmm I’m not even sure what all the popular opinions are about Rosa! I guess it could be unpopular to say that I think her little song title scavenger hunt made no sense (like, who was she hiding those things for? If it was just for her own sake, why leave a key?)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I guess my wishes are mostly enumerated in the ‘non-romantic OTP’ question-- I want to see Rosa interacting with all those characters in season 2! Among others, of course. I think she will add a really interesting dynamic to the group and I hope she sticks around.

Fanfiction Writer Asks: 4 and 41

4) What is your favourite genre to write for?

I’ve been really enjoying writing character introspection, especially for RNM. I started with Alex, I’ve done a little bit of Michael, and I absolutely adore Maria (I plan on writing lots more of her). I love angst, and I love fluff, though I probably write less of the latter and more of the former. I love writing things that are canon divergent, because sometimes it’s just fun to take the characters and write them if something was different here, or there instead of how it was done in canon.

41) What’s your favourite minor character you’ve written?

In the fic I’m currently writing, I love writing interactions with Rosa (she’s sarcastic and she’s angry and I love her so much), and I enjoyed working Alex’s brothers into the mix - those were some interesting dynamics I got to create and play with.
