unpopular opinion i’m so sick of seeing i doN’t tRuST oRiGINal ChaRACtERs UnlESs xyZ / OcS ArEn’t goOD eNoUGh UnleSS XYz in peoples rules in this year of 2019 and oncoming year of 2020 like we’re all still gonna pretend that original characters aren’t peoples blood sweat and tears lmfao ... people can be selective with ocs they follow and/or not follow them at all & be perfectly valid without insulting the roleplayers who write ocs in their rules or holding them to RIDICULOUSLY high standards meanwhile those of us writing canon characters can get by with half a google doc for rules & no character bio at all even if our portrayals are on the other side of the planet from their canon, did an oc writer hold u at gunpoint in mcdonald’s like calm down
boi im gna get sum for this .. the word SACCHARINE. idk where the trend came from bc according to google it’s just got to do w/ glucose molecules or some shit & isn’t even defined as an adjective, but for the past couple of months i’ve seen it using to describe a pretty female character so many fucking times it’s driving me insane.
UNRELATED & SALTY BUT — if u tell someone that their relationship w/ another person isnt gonna work out just bc ur selfish, had ur own relationship issues, or ur just a dick, thats a shitty thing to do & ur probs a shitty person

☀ What’s your rp pet peeve?
This is like 90% ooc things but eh
- Giving or claiming a character has a serious mental disorder and then never coming within miles of playing it accurately, which shows either a saddening lack of research (I can understand not wanting to go to school to be an engineer just because your muse is, but a ten second google search was too much effort?) or a laziness that cheapens the character. Sorry peeps, sociopaths can’t genuinely care about other people, it’s what characterizes the goddamn condition. It’s disrespectful, and I don’t usually need to say that.
- People that like starter calls or ask for a starter and then never reply to it, then ask for another later. Not a huge irritation, but if there was something about the first that didn’t suit you, go and talk to the other person about altering it, I’ve never seen anyone on here be anything but willing to alter such things to make it workable.
- The fact that fandom has become such an intense thing and everyone so defensive and quick to jump the gun you have to ALWAYS include disclaimers and apologies and whatever or you WILL inevitably be misunderstood/misinterpreted and yelled at about it via anon
- Mischaracterization for ship purposes. We’ll say three popular characters are A, B, and C. A and C are extremely close friends, lifelong companions, they trust one another with everything and anything. C and B are or were a canonical couple. A and B are the fan-favorite couple, so naturally B has actually been nothing but a manipulative and deceiving person to C all along, despite any evidence to the contrary. That any logical person in A’s position wouldn’t want anything to do with someone who would do that to someone like C, will never be acknowledged in whatever piece of fan-media displays it.
Or in general, little twists of canon that dismiss other aspects of a character so it can be shippy. Boo to that. Makes ships boring and characters boring and fan-media boring just stop
- OVER-WOOBIFICATION OF CHARACTERS. DE-FANGING CHARACTERS. NOT EVERYONE WAS MADE TO BE CUTE. HAVING REAL EMOTIONS DOESN’T MEAN A CHARACTER SHOULD BE SHACKLED TO THE ROLE OF BLUSHING BASHFUL COY WIFE-MOM. SYMPATHETIC PEOPLE CAN STILL BE RUTHLESS, AND HARSH, AND ANGRY.
- Constant political things on-dash. I can see an exception in a lot of cases for X-Men blogs, since, you know, thematically and literally it just makes more sense, but in general - this is all a hobby, and when I come here I don’t want to be thinking about things politically, I just want to laugh at characters and write things. Keep it to a personal.
- Rules in passwords kind of bug me. I’m not going to talk about it as a concept, but they’re really awkward and could just as easily be swapped with a hidden link to a post you can like, which is easier on everyone and won’t keep me up at night wondering if I can interact with you already
- Rating/describing a character’s strength with who they can beat in a fight. It’s lazy. Your muse beat up Magneto? Cool, but that doesn’t tell me what you’re good at, how you got good at those things, or if you’re even all that strong to begin with, maybe he was having an off-day. I’m much more impressed with hearing about a character’s practice and training and effort put into being strong than ‘o and then they effortlessly beat up everyone in the tri-state area at once because they’re just that strong’
- Responding to anon hate with a barrage of cussing and rage, it doesn’t bother me, but I just want the public to know that nobody, nobody, nobody, looks or sounds cool trying to intimidate a stranger on the internet, and overuse of strong language just makes you sound childish. Keep it classy.
- Guilt-tripping posts. Immense peeve. It’s one thing to make an ooc update about not being in a great mood and not wanting to do much, or a post reminding people about your open tag or your meme tag, but anything directly meant to shame people into sending you things or starting things is shitty. If you’re craving interaction that badly, instigate it yourself. Send some damn memes yourself. If you have a permanent starter call, write some things for those people up yourself. Don’t expect everyone to come to you all the time, it’s a two-way street.
- Promo-spamming. If I see the same promo reblogged ten times in a day, from the account of its origin, in any way other than ‘this is brand new and I want to be sure everyone in different time zones will see it’, it becomes one of the single most annoying things on my dash, and looks pretty....I don’t know, superficial?
- Following a particular muse, interacting with a particular muse, and then constantly making ooc posts about how much you hate the character in whatever film/series. Sends some mixed signals and is generally just rude as hell - and people pick muses because they’re passionate about them, so you’re really rubbing salt in a tender area.
- Talking to someone OOC, spamming them OOC, spoiling them rotten with messages and attention and thread ideas -- and then just stopping. I don’t think I need to elaborate, that’s just...kind of awful
- Comparing characters by strength and/or complaining about X not being like Y despite vastly different contexts and histories. If I hear ‘oh man new-trilogy Raven sucks, comic Raven could beat her up!!!!!’ I’m going to vomit. No shit? Of course she could? She’s had a lot of power-boosts and like fifty years of comic history that is ENTIRELY AND COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE FILM CANON? Of course she behaves differently? You’re whining about an apple not being an orange.
☁ Have you ever forgiven a partner when you shouldn't have?
Can’t say I have? Unless you count people ignoring me, then I suppose I’ve given a lot of benefit of doubt. Generally if someone proves themselves to be a dick, I’m outtie.
Salt Meme♒ THOUGHTS ON THE FANDOM YOU’RE CURRENTLY RPING IN?
It’s alright, I guess? My tumblr rp life hasn’t exactly been spent in tons of fandoms, so I don’t have much to compare it to. In any group as big as this the m c u / comics you’ll get the occasional pompous people and constant battling of aesthetics, which all sucks, but I’m not sure if it’d be fair of me to fault the fandom.
I will say there’s a lot more ignoring/dismissing/etc of lady characters, despite all the talk to the contrary, and a lot of ‘X is good and Y is shit’ in regards to characters/groups/pieces of applicable media, which can come across as pretty cliquey although I haven’t had much personal trouble with it. Taking personal feelings about the actor and projecting them onto the character seems to happen a lot. I dunno, it’s hard to judge a fandom as BIG as the Marvel one has gotten. In my experience, a 7 or 8 out of 10.

A lot, but one that comes up the most frequently is ‘Ignoring Canon Characterization For The Sake Of Forcing A Character Into A Role In A Relationship’, and it’s distant cousin, ‘Never Acknowledging The Important Women In A Male Character’s Life Because If He’s Got His Boyfriend, Nothing Else Matters, Right?’
For all the obvious reasons other people have definitely written more eloquently and intelligently than I could ever hope to. It’s boring, I can’t think of a single example where it isn’t making the characters ten times less interesting, and it makes the ship feel much, much more like something people are into for the aesthetic appeal than the actual relationship and dynamic between those involved.
And the latter is probably hypocritical in most cases, what with all the ‘Platonic relationships are important!!! Female characters are important!!! (Unless they take any focus away, IC or OOC, from X romantic relationship!)’
Obviously since I play Raven, I see a lot of it in regards to her, and it drives me up walls.Completely regardless of one’s ship preferences, she’s formed extremely, EXTREMELY strong and influential relationships with both Charles and Erik (and if you’re going strictly by new-film canon, which I’d say I see a lot of blogs doing/having in mind when creating content, she’s actually known and interacted with both longer than the third person) that are acknowledged very sparingly for no actual reason. Charles and Raven were siblings, confidants, close friends, for years. Raven and Erik got a lot of strength from one another, reformed the Brotherhood, and are the only two survivors of the Brotherhood, understand eachother’s values, and it was Raven that talked him down during that final stand against Apocalypse. And for whatever reason, there’s very, very, very little that reflects any of it. Even if you don’t ship whatever-combination, there’s no way to assume there was no bond whatsoever unless you want to blatantly ignore canon for whatever reason. She’s not there solely for jokes or to comment on goings-on or cute ship whatevers, she’s a key player and extremely important to the both of them, and they’re extremely important to her in turn, and just...?Ugh.
