I have to say that, as an American, I found Mehdi Hasan's appearance on the Jubilee "debate" series against a bunch of "far right conservatives" to be highly disturbing and downright scary. This isn't a knock on Mehdi, I found that he did a fantastic job holding his own against these freaks but still I think the video warrants some discussion. I think the video further proves how this particular brand of fascism has infiltrated and continued to take hold of the country and how these tech companies enable these freaks. Now, I want to start out by saying that I'm not advocating for violence, far from it, but this type of behavior needs to be stomped out of this country and sent back to 1940s Germany where it belongs. This isn't about free-speech to me, I support people's right to have an opinion different than mine, whether it be on social issues or economics but it's different when we're talking about people wanting to hurt and subjugate other people simply because they're not white and christian.
Malcolm X said it best, "I am not against using violence in self-defense. I don’t call it violence when it’s self-defense, I call it intelligence." Well I believe we are approaching a scary time here in America, the Jubilee video, in my opinion, further cements it and I think it's far past time that rational thinking americans, at least the ones that don't agree with this shit, need to be ready to stomp this shit out IF it comes down to it. Again, this isn't about free-speech, we're far past that, this about people voicing their desire to harm other people simply because they're different from them. The american way is about diversity and inclusion, it always has been, to me at least, we are a country of immigrants on stolen land on a society that was built off the backs of black slaves who have been repeatedly denied reparations for the crimes done to them. Fascism has no place here, especially Mango Mussolini's particular brand of it that has these so called "God-fearing" and "good" religious folks jizzing in their pants at the mere idea of having the kind of power that will enable them to bend the country to their will.
I think it's sad and appalling that Jubilee will platform this type of rhetoric, especially against someone like Mehdi, who I'm sure has experienced his fair share of racism and xenophobia in his life and watching him get told by some backwoods goober to "Get out" was infuriating and uncomfortable to me. The fact that it's gotten 4 million views in the span of somewhere around 2 days is further evidence of how these tech companies and the algorithm further enable and reward this type of behavior when it needs to be sent back to where it belongs and stomped out of this country.
Now, I will admit, I liked watching idiots like Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson and Candice Owens get exposed as the disingenuous grifters that they are but it's different when we're platforming people calling themselves fascists while praising Hitler and Francisco Franco.
