Happy birthday, Sam.

Wishing you feels like wishing an old friend, who has seen me grow into a whole new person, like I’ve seen you grow into a whole new person over 14 years now. 

It’s like I’ve been with you through the tears, the pain, the smiles... all of it. You feel like a part of me.

Thank you for making me a better person, a better writer, for teaching me to not give up faith, be hurt by the world, but love it anyway. You taught me to look at the bright side of things, to hope, to forgive.

I wish you knew that there are so many people out here, who are fiercely proud of you. Who love you... you are their inspiration to get through hard days. 

I don’t know what the coming year holds for either of us, but I love you with all my heart, and despite how that turns out, I think in the end, in our own ways, we’ll be fine.
