Preference - When You've Been Apart
Sam - Sam is more talkative than ever when the two of you are reunited, and you smile as he tells detailed stories of what he saw in his time away from you. He likes to tell you down to the minutiae what he experienced; he uses you as his sounding board because he's realized that nothing feels real now until he can tell you about it. It’s something new for him, but surprisingly not unpleasant. He likes sharing, he likes having someone to talk about how he felt when the monster of the week nearly got him, or the almost conversation he had with his brother. He’d rather have you with him all the time to experience these things alongside him, but this is the next best thing. He talks for hours, lying on top of his comforter with you, staring at the ceiling with your hands twined together. He talks until you fall asleep to the sound of his voice, happy to have him back beside you, and he smiles down at you, feeling everything becoming real around him again simply because of your presence.
Dean - It’s hard for Dean to admit to himself, and harder to admit to you, how big a part of his routine you’ve become, but he realizes it the minute he’s away from you. When he returns back to the bunker, he gathers you in his arms immediately, breathing you in and clutching to you as if his life depended on it. You laugh, asking how the hunt or trip was; whatever it was that took the two of you away from one another, but he doesn’t want to talk. He wants to get back to the way things were, just being with you. He falls back into step with you right away, as if he never left. He holds you a little closer that first night back as he drifts off, his nose against your hair as he sleeps deeper than he has in nights. He won’t admit it out loud, not yet, but he can do it with his actions; so he holds you tight. He makes sure you know, whether through his glances, his embrace, or his kisses, that no matter how far or how long he travels away from you, you’re his home now.
Cas - Cas is overjoyed to see you again after not being able to for days on end. He nearly runs to you, surprised by how strongly he needs to feel you in his arms again, and encircles you completely. It's a very human feeling, this longing he's felt for you, and it makes him nervous and excited at once. Even if it’s only been a few days, Cas has a hard time taking his eyes from you for awhile after he gets back. He takes your hand and wants to take a walk with you; he wants you to tell him everything you did while he was gone. You laugh sometimes, looking up into those blue eyes and telling him you didn’t do anything special, but he just shakes his head at you. “Tell me,” he says, imploring, and you can’t deny him that. He loves it all, even if all you did was take a trip to the store and read while he was away. The world is new to him still, and he experiences it all through you. He wants to hear everything, regretting being away from you and your heart for any period of time at all.
