Fucked up headcanons below the cut

I hc Zaheer does some Terrible No Good Things to both Pema and Tenzin while they're held hostage at the end of Book 3.

Pema gets pregnant. Katara and Kya tell her to abort it for lots of good reasons. When it becomes clear that Pema is debating keeping it, Tenzin very begrudgingly tells her that she can do what she wants because it's her body, her choice, but he can't guarantee he'll be a father to it.

Pema decides to keep it, and oh boy, is that a wild decision that no one else understands. (Cue arguments and angst and crying)

She's a healthy baby girl. Samaya. Dark green eyes that are close enough to Pema's that no one questions the girl's lineage. She's an airbender. Zaheer is the first confirmed instance of a harmonic convergence airbender being able to pass on their element.

The original plan was to give her to the acolytes to be raised communally like the air nomads used to do with their children, but Pema holds her in her arms after 15 hours of labor and wants to keep her. Tenzin melts seeing his wife with another baby.

He's conflicted about his loyalty to the child at first, but he does know that he'd do anything for Pema. After some soul-searching, he gets his head out of his ass and realizes he's been blaming a BABY for the things that happened to him and his family. He falls in love with the kid in 2 hours flat.

They decide to keep her and raise her no differently from their other children.

Well... I accidentally? created? a situation? or pointed out a canon situation? and @dont-blame-it-on-the-kids did their thing and started saying some of the most horrendous stuff (affectionate) I've ever heard in my LIFE. It took me a few days,, but after the skin-crawling sensation mostly stopped, I was able to lean into it for the sake of hurting my blorbo, which is my favorite past-time. And then I took the idea and named their first kid, and also wrote 500 of the most sickening words I've ever written in my whole life. I'm still queasy just thinking about it. Enjoy! (but don't actually enjoy)
