She rested her head on the shoulder of a great bough. Through dreamy eyes she studied the early morning light that danced through the sea of fresh spring leaves high above. They looked so youthful together — the light and the leaves. Different by anyone’s initial interpretation, but at their core they stood united. And she knew she could claim a stake in their odd relationship as well. Her soul danced and sang right alongside them, perfectly swaying to the rhythm of the energy that moved her. That was her. There was a whisper, a gentle voice, buried deep within her chest. She trudged through hallways, through an unseen sea of weight, but could sometimes hear the voice’s enchanting echo bouncing between the walls of her mind. It was almost maddening— the contrast between the bitterness of the reality she chose and the sweet waves of what could be that quietly surged through her very veins. What she didn’t see, as she pushed forever onward under that great weight, was that she pushed forever onward. Forward. Onward. As a child my reality was in my imagination. I lived in trees, ran barefoot through fields, and felt secure in the comfort of nightly celestial bodies far above. Now, slowly but surely, I’m pealing away the layers of limiting beliefs and self-deprecating mantras that have been building over the years to once more unveil that inner child who danced with the wind and sang to the sky.
