It took me 20 years to realize that I’ve been meditating my whole life and never realized it. Meditation does not have to always look like sitting cross legged with closed eyes; it can be anything that allows your mind to disconnect. For some, this looks like running, yoga, gardening, painting, etc. For me, it looks like writing. ✶ As a kid, I used to love jamming in my headphones and getting completely and utterly lost in the pulsing vibes of my favorite songs as I’d scribble away in my notebook. I usually began these sessions by simply writing the lyrics as quickly and effortlessly as I could, until my mind was swept into the sounds and my thoughts were drowned. It’s a process that shuts down the ‘ego’ part of my brain and the words just fly. I use lyrics to get things going, but then stray and write in intuitive streams with no perception of time. And I always end each session with a strong sense of balance and internal peace. ✶ Now, this is still one of my favorite ways to meditate and connect to Spirit and energetically recharge! ✧ ✧ New Blogpost ✧ ✧ When it comes to my career and aspirations, I find myself in a new place every few months. My life shifts dramatically and distorts my dreams and current goals along the way. These uncalled-for bends in the road happen so often for me, I now expect them when things feel calm. And when they do come, I take them so personally, every time. It always feels as though everything I’ve worked so hard for was uprooted beyond my control, or that I just wasted months of my life and failed. To top it off, I feel guilty for taking on new dreams and abandoning the ones I was just previously so passionate about. Usually this is when the breakdowns and nights of pure rage run rampart in the Burgett household (all on my end!). I’m definitely an “all or nothing” person with a very limited perspective when it comes to my plans for the future; if something even barely strays from my schedule or goals, I scream “FUCK THE WORLD”, drop everything I’m doing, and rage quit. Then I fall apart and take my discomfort out on everyone around me until the next shiny goal crosses my sights.
