Sherlock smiled evenly at her. “You’re good at this,” he stated in a low whisper. Her brow furrowed in mild confusion. “This?” He gestured between them. “This. Us. Being undercover.” “Oh,” she chirped. “Well, I mean, it’s not terribly difficult. It’s not as if I haven’t had a serious relationship before- I mean, not that you haven’t! Though, I suppose I don’t know for sure if you have or not. But I would assume that at some point you’d have had some sort of-” “Teach me.”
Louder Than Words by writingwife83
Her heart had gotten a much needed restart that evening. No, she didn’t believe that her love for Sherlock Holmes had magically flown away the moment the words had left his lips and hers. But there was an aspect of that love that had. The part that held her captive and left her forever deprived, wanting, and unsure. The part that made her wonder ‘what if?’ And the part that forever plagued her with whether she’d missed a chance that would never come around again. That was what she’d finally shaken off. And it felt magnificent.

On Again, Off Again
“M-my...my mother- why would my mother...visit you?” “Excellent question,” Molly agreed, crossing her arms over her middle. “I was just as surprised! Seemed a bit odd to me. But that was nothing compared to what she came to speak to me about.” “Oh God,” Sherlock muttered to himself. “Bit late to start looking to a higher power,” Molly said with a huff. “Especially seeing as you’ve apparently been so freely lying! Imagine my surprise when she explained that she thought it was her duty to come speak to me and make sure I understood how deeply heartbroken you still were over our breakup from months ago!”
His brow furrowed again. “What could you possibly have to feel guilty about?”
She licked her lips. “Nothing I did, of course. It’s more how I feel sometimes.” The next part was what really got her pulse racing. “How I feel when I see you.”
She could feel his focus on her heighten at that moment, and the lightness of mood very quickly vanished.
“Do you know what I thought that day?” Molly asked, going on while twisting one of the buttons on her cardigan. “When Mrs. Hudson called and told me what had happened? She told me everything and I- I though-“ She stopped, feeling her breath catch again, having to whisper her next words. “Thank God he’s alive.”

His expression was one of pain in that moment. She knew she was asking the world of him; demanding that he fully open up his heart and spill all the gory details. But in this case, she was willing to put him through it, because she knew that it was exactly what he owed her.
He shut his eyes and exhaled slowly before beginning.
“I wanted them to be just words,” he said softly, staring off at nothing. “I wanted to save you more than anything else, but I thought that the simplest way to do that would be to request that you say those three words as if reciting a to-do list. I told myself that if I asked you to simply do that for some unnamed mundane purpose, nothing would really change. I didn’t truly realize how wrong I was till you made me say it.” He looked back into her eyes.
