we need to talk about sam's shame. how deeply ashamed he is of his connection to his abuser, of the unwanted attraction he feels toward lucifer. to sam, those feelings are a betrayal. he feels like he is betraying dean.

he tells dean that lucifer has been touching him in his visions, and you can see how hard it is for him to even say it out loud. he is ashamed that he dreams about his rapist, and even more ashamed that part of him enjoys those touches.

and lucifer dragging sam back to life against his will only proves, yet again, that sam belongs to him. and sam hates admitting that, he is so ashamed that he cannot even look dean in the eye. he is terrified of how dean will react. dean already thinks there is something unclean about him, and his bond with lucifer, the fact that lucifer sees him as his property, just makes sam feel even more tainted.

he is ashamed in front of jack too, because he is basically a mother to him. sam feels like he is betraying his son and his brotherhusband, because he is lucifer's wife, his toy, his possession. and the shame of that eats him alive.
