What are your tsams rants, hot takes and unpopular opinions?? Im kinda getting tired of the show so im asking around 👍
As someone who stopped watching the show in November, and then unsubscribed from it just before New Year, I’ve developed quite a few, which feels like a shame because I really wanted to enjoy this show and its characters but, by the end, I was left with a lot of negative emotions and dissatisfaction towards it. Buckle up because this might get long.
I’ll start off with the one I’m probably most known for: I completely despise the addition of the Overseer’s kid to the family, and that they’re apparently Moon’s kid. This kid is the most blatant example of a character being created solely as a plot device, so much so that I just call this kid “plot device kid” because I straight up refuse to name them. They should’ve never been created. I hate how completely out-of-character this is for Moon. He never once expressed interest in wanting a child but he suddenly wants to take care of this random child he’s never met and knows nothing about because…? This kid feels like Molten’s immediate replacement, and I’d imagine that Solar and Cosmos would rightfully object to the kid being in their house. The show, if they wanted to make Moon a parent, needed to establish that Moon had changed his opinion on children and would be open to the idea of having a child of his own one day, and then buildup to him having a child in whatever way they decide, (like Moon meets and develops a parental relationship with an animatronic child, or he decides to build one of his own), as long as it’s not basically kidnapping a kid from their recently deceased parent. Or the show made a new Moon character who is a parent. This was my final straw for the show after months of dissatisfaction, and I admit I project all my frustration onto the plot device kid because of it.
Dazzle is my least favourite character in the show. I thought she was a poorly handled character on the show the moment I found out about her, which was the episode where Sun tells Moon who Dazzle truly was, and I had no clue who Sun was talking about because I didn’t watch LAES. She makes next-to-no appearances on the show and has no personality.
Continuing off the last one, the two episodes featuring Dazzle’s bio father get my vote for two of the worst episodes of the entire show. I don’t know which episode is worse. The first one is uncomfortable to watch because of the show making a grieving parent a villain for acting in, while irrational, an understandable way towards the person responsible for killing his daughter. And for painting Sun and Moon as the good guys when they weren’t. As for the second episode, I thought it was overdramatic, ridiculous, (Dazzle getting shot somehow had me rolling my eyes), and the entire family were just stupid. Like, Dazzle couldn’t pick up on the tension and decided to run into danger when she was literally watching it? Kids are smarter than that and can pick up on tension. And there was literally four other people in the house and none of them noticed Dazzle was missing? And how did none of them hear what was happening outside? THE DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN!!!
Still on the kid characters, I think the show should’ve never had brought them into the family in the first place. It’s an example of the characters being stupid again. This family is literally threatened and attacked by powerful villains on a daily basis and they want to bring in defenceless children who can very easily be kidnapped and/or killed by these villains?! The show can have kid characters as part of the cast, but just not part of the family.
Speaking of villains, I want this show to have a true villain who is female. The only female villain that the show has had is Rosie, and she did nothing. I want a female villain who is so unapologetically evil that they’ll be willing to hurt or kill anyone for any reason. The show needs a good female character in general, honestly.
I mean this with no disrespect intended for the creator, but the family’s third/current home is such a downgrade compared to the first two. It’s very empty and lifeless and, ironically enough, for a house that was literally made to be for the family, it’s lacking any personality. I feel like if you simply just removed the fanart off the walls, it would just be a generic house.
The show should avoid doing more serious topics because they more often than not end up fumbling with them. For example, Terra’s chronic pain feels like it’s been completely forgotten about by now. I think the thumbnail artists remember the wheelchair more than the show does. And I have no hope for how the show would handle the new stuff with Moon’s memory loss because I fear that it’ll be used as either a way to “improve” Moon or be, funnily enough, completely forgotten about in a short time.
I firmly believe that the show pretending that Moon’s unlocking emotions plot never happened was a result of the backlash that the show received when they announced that they wanted to strip Moon of the aroace and agender aspects of his character. Parts of Moon that feel, to me, universally liked by fans. It feels like a big disconnect between the people working on the show and the fans, like the creators didn’t know that people liked these parts of Moon, and the horrible implication that the show thinks that aroace people and agender people are emotionless.
I don’t want Sun to be in a romantic relationship with anyone, not until everything is dealt with and the family’s lives are peaceful. It’s mainly for the same reason why I don’t want children in the family: an innocent person being dragged into the family’s problems and their life is in constant danger.
The show has a bad “tell, don’t show” problem, especially with characters’ relationships with each other. My go-to example is Sun and Dazzle’s relationship because that was one of the earliest ones I picked up on, before the problem got worse. I never liked how the show would constantly say that Sun is a great dad (which he really isn’t being right now, Sun, for the love of God, GET DAZZLE OUT OF THE SANCTUARY SCHOOL AND AWAY FROM THAT PLACE RIGHT NOW) but it was never shown to us. For a video series, I would like to see characters interacting fairly regularly so I can actually believe they have a close relationship. Compare that to Solar and Jack (before the show ruined it), they were shown interacting with each other regularly, which made their relationship more believable to me.
I find it distracting how often the style of the models of the main cast clash with each other. For example, you’ve got Sun and Moon, who look like they were ripped straight out of Security Breach, and then you have Nova and Frost, who are so bright and colourful that they look like they belong in a toddler’s cartoon.
Speaking of models, while I think that one of the best decisions the show made with Sun and Moon was their thumbnail outfits, as I dub them, they both looked really bad on the actual model the one time each was shown. Moon’s turtleneck looked more like a black blob was MS Painted on him, while Sun’s vest looked more like something you’d put on a small doll. They overall didn’t look much like actual clothes.
And I think I have rambled on enough. I have many more hot takes but we’ll be here all day if I keep going.
