I was thinking about Wake Up Dead Man today as i often do, and specifically about the names Martha and Samson. I love the allusions to Christianity in the movie and both Martha and Samson are biblical characters so i thought about it.

Samson was a man who famously had complete trust in the woman he loved and who eventually lost everything (including his life) because of it.

And Martha was a devout woman who was so caught up with performing her percieved duties that she forgot what her faith was really all about. (Luke 10:40-42)

This movie is so good everytime i think about it it gets better

still obsessed with the fact that when martha says “makes me sick… these kids painting rocket ships over his sacred resting pace” all samson and jud do is look at each other and then samson immediately starts painting faster

So a quick thing on Wake Up Dead Man!

There's a few things I noticed due to being raised Catholic myself (blessed be my religious trauma) that nobody talks about.

The church this whole thing takes place in is a CATHOLIC church; why am I remarking this? Well, unlike protestant priests, The Catholic Clergy are FORBIDDEN from either marriage or sex.

A Reverend could have a wife and kids, a catholic priest CAN'T.

Thus; both Father Wicks (Prentice and Jefferson) had kids out of wedlock.

We're constantly bombarded with the image of The Harlot Whore, but it wasn't Grace who had kids while having a bow of chastity; it was her father, and then her son.

Neither men are chastised for breaking their bows AS CATHOLIC PRIESTS,NEITHER SHOULD HAVE CHILDREN AND THUS NEITHER IS IN A POSITION TO JUDGE WOMEN.

And more so in the case of Jeff, because the revelation that he BROKE his vows makes him want to say quits and run for an office, but there's the small issue that a Catholic priest CAN'T quit; they have to ask permision to their Diocese to retire (their Bishop), and the Bishop can either allow or deny their perrisher's request to retire.

So there he's commiting a double sin against his own vows as a priest.

So, to any devout catholic, Wicks themselves should've been already on their shit list; but they found it easier to hate on a woman who made NO vows of the sort.

All this to say Benoit was 100% right during the whole movie and the church was missogining the whole ass time.

oh, btw, do we all agree that one of the truest victims of this movie was samson? dude was so nice he got inside the coffin without context. he even got jud to commit a crime for him! so his faith wouldn't be shaken! what a guy
