8. how do they show they love each other through words? (without just saying "i love you")
morby is a ship that is way more actions > words, i would say their style of verbally (& non-verbally tbh) communicating is generally built on knowing each other for so long & knowing each other's little quirks/habits
rigby is a verbal stimmer, imo, & i believe mordo picked up his stims ("ohh" "hm hm" etc) from a young age but continues to pick up new ones from him, constantly echoing him unintentionally bc of how much he loves hanging out w/ him
mordecai verbally reminds rigby to do things a lot such as take medication or do general self-care because rigby is The Forgetter, he also points out things that rigby overlooks specifically when working because rigby has a tendency to skip steps
their style of communication is built on teasing one another but there are certain lines neither of them cross & they have a habit of throwing reassurances into the insults (ex: yeah youre stupid but youre still my best friend, or more explicitly romantic would be youre my idiot)
speaking of. they really emphasize their best friend status even when dating or married. theyre more likely to call each other best friends than they are boyfriends or husbands. their friendship comes first before anything to both of them
another thing is that they do have a tendency to assume the other can handle the insults/teasing but when it becomes evident the other cant handle it/that theres a serious issue/that a line HAS been crossed they do stop on a dime and take it seriously. sometimes that includes an apology but sometimes it just takes a simple acknowledgement. it really depends
for more romantic scenarios when theyre not out in public, rigby likes to flirt with mordo quite explicitly & will interpret what mordos feeling or wanting as questions in order to get a feel of what is okay and whats not and to get consent. example: youre staring at my lips a lot. does that mean you want to kiss me? said in a teasing voice so there is some plausible deniability in case that isnt what mordecai wants. but he knows mordecais often too shy to ask for what he actually wants or needs. this is probably the most appreciated verbal communication between the two because otherwise theyd never go anywhere with how bad mordecai is at initiating
