Yo! Before I come back from hiatus (on the 9th, now! ^^) I just want to make sure that I’m not misleading any potential new partners who are looking to start threads!
My Sans is a canon Sans with additions to his background and more added to his character, since there was little to go off from in the game. I’ve tried to make him feel as connected to the original Sans as possible, or rather, my interpretation of how the original Sans was, and how he would be in other aspects/scenarios.
That being said, my Sans will often not act like the majority of Sans’s you see in romantic fanfiction. Not that there is anything wrong with those portrayals, they’re perfectly fine, but from the way I came to view Sans and developed him as a character it is not exactly a match.
I don’t want anyone to end up being disappointed, so that’s why I’m making this little notice! My Sans is a very flawed man. He can be blunt. Can be harsh. He is hard to get close to. He will very rarely show romantic interest first, and even if he does feel a spark, expect a good waiting period before he does anything about it. If you want the story to depend on him alone moving the plot forward in general, prepare for a long thread, because he drags his feet on most aspects of his life.
Even when he cares for someone very deeply, he is not always very good at being there for them emotionally. Sometimes, yes; he nails it. Says just the right thing. Stays silent at just the right moment. Shows his affection or support in subtle, but effective, ways.
And other times, he misses the mark. Even with Kailee, a character on this blog that my Sans shares a ship with and has developed a very deep bond, there are times where she has needed his emotional support and, in that instance, Sans failed her.
There will be times that Sans fails your muse.
There will be times that he is wrong. And sometimes he’ll learn after the first time it happens; sometimes he’ll learn after the third or fourth. Sometimes he never learns at all.
There will be times he hurts your muse with sharp words, though it’s very rarely out of any sort of malice.
I will not soften him up for the mun. He will be blunt and harsh and emotionally lacking at times, but he will also be charming, and gentle, and sweet at others. He will be observant in good ways, and in bad.
And I will let him do all of that in his own time, his own way, because I feel that is what makes him a strong rendition of his character; his, ironically, very “human” nature. There are parts of him that are ugly, parts that are beautiful, and parts that are neutral. I want to share all of him, not just picked and chosen pieces.
If any of you would rather have a Sans more like the one portrayed as more overall gentle, open, emotional receptive, ect, then please don’t feel guilty about seeking another Sans! I will completely understand and harbor no ill feelings. ❤
