Power of the Finnish language - a full story with only one vowel
This is the incredible 9-verse poem "Sataa" by Roman Schatz, telling a full story using only the vowel “A”. It highlights how diverse Finnish language can be even under harsh limitations. Two whole verses are exclusively about making love, as you'll see. Amateur translation by me.
Sataa (It's raining) Sataa. Matalassa rantamajassa (It's raining. In a low shoreline cabin) takka palaa, samppanja avataan. (the fireplace is on, champagne is opened.) Tavan takaa tapaavat rakastavat (Lovers meet as they have before) Sanna ja Masa (Sanna and Masa) halaamaan (to hug) salaa. (in secret.) Lakana kahahtaa (Sheets rustle) ahnas naaras paljaana lampaantaljalla. (ravenous female naked on the sheepskin.) Masa kaappaa pakarat (Masa grabs the buttocks) hankaa harmaata partaansa Sannan mahlaan, (rubs his grey beard on Sanna's nectar,) alkaa panna rakkaansa ahdasta tavaraa (starts to hump his darling's tight stuff) takaa. (from behind.) Sanna ja Masa antavat parastaan, (Sanna and Masa give it their best,) jaksavat ratsastaa takajalalla jakkaralla; (ride the stool on its backleg;) jahtaavat palavaa laavaa, (chase the burning lava,) salama pamahtaa: (lightning bangs:) Sanna ja Masa saavat samalla (Sanna and Masa get it at the same time) - mahtavaa! (- awesome!) Jahaa. Arvatkaa vaan: vanha draama. (Oh yes. You guessed it: the old drama.) Sannan maha alkaa kasvaa, (Sanna's belly starts to grow,) mamma kantaa kakaraa. (mommy is carrying a brat.) Ansassa, saatana! karjahtaa Masa. (Trapped, damnit! roars Masa.) Maksa rattaat! vastaa Sanna vakavana. (Pay the stroller! replies Sanna in earnest.) Paskan marjat. (Bloody hell.) Masa raahaa happamana (Masa sourly drags) kaljavatsansa kapakkaan (his beer belly into the pub) rankkaa kamaa tankkaamaan. (to fuel hard stuff.) Palaa, sammaltaa, (Returns, slurs,) laattaa, sammahtaa, (vomits, passes out,) ankarassa darrassa. (a severe hangover.) Sanna nakkaa kalaa pataan, kanaa, makkaraa. (Sanna tosses fish into the pot, chicken, sausage.) Halpaa rasvasafkaa, haastaa Masa. (Cheap fatty grub, says Masa.) Anna rahaa, parahtaa Sanna. (Give me money, cries Sanna.) Passaa varastaa, jatkaa Masa, (You should steal, continues Masa,) lakkaa paasaamasta, (stop nagging,) haahka! (hag!) Sannalla tavallaan napsahtaa, (Sanna kind of snaps) katala akka halajaa tappaa! (vile woman wants to kill!) Hakkaa Masaa saappaalla naamaan, (Beats Masa in the face with a boot,) Masa makaa maassa: (Masa lies on the ground:) pahassa jamassa, (in a bad shape,) kamala kahakka. (terrible scuffle.) Sannaa kalvaa - (Sanna is troubled -) varmaan parasta pakata kamat; (probably best to pack the things;) jatkaa matkaa, (keep moving,) maalata naamansa, (paint her face,) karata raskaana taajamasta - (flee from the suburbs -) saasta. (filth.) Sanna ravaa jalan Saksaan (Sanna runs to Germany on foot) lasta kasvattamaan. (to raise the child.) Satama-altaalla vapaa-ajallaan Masa kalastaa. (Masa fishes at the docks in his free time.) Harakat palaavat majakalta, (Magpies come back from the lighthouse,) taas sataa (it's raining again.) ja salva parantaa haavat. (and salve heals the wounds.)
Ok I had to make this post for my darling sweethearts Mithari and Bull, and their 5 little Qunlets since I figured out their names finally!
Their firstborn is Meraad! His name means ‘sea’, after his strikingly blue eyes at birth. He’s pretty much Bull’s twin, except with greyish-white hair and a surprisingly dainty nose. He was born shortly before the expedition into the Deep Roads, which prompted Bull to figure out how to use a sling and carry little baby Meraad with him, strapped to his back, in combat - of course with Ari watching over them both. Lovingly dubbed The Iron Calf by Varric in his infancy, he lived up to the nickname - having trained with some of the finest warriors in Thedas, he quickly gained a reputation for prowess in combat. Nowadays, he spends his time trying to wrangle his siblings and keep the twins in line, though he does have aspirations to run his own mercenary company someday, like his father.
Then came their second child, Taashath! His name means ‘calm’, because he almost never cried as a baby(which was handy, since they also had a toddler to care for at the time). He closely resembles his older brother, with almost the same shade of hair and eyes(both are slightly darker). He was born in the Frostback Basin, and Bull loves to tell the story of how Dorian nearly fainted when he heard Ari giving birth. His appetite is legendary and insatiable, as are his sleeping habits.
Sataa comes next! Their first daughter, her name means ‘the world’; a reference to her mamae’s habit of saving Thedas. She’s the spitting image of Ari, white-blonde hair and dainty elven features, except for a few key differences - fade-green eyes, pale white horns(which earned her the nickname Little Halla), and magic. She was born shortly after Ari’s goodbye to Solas, and it’s theorized that her exposure to the Anchor’s magic in the womb caused her unique appearance and magical abilities. She studied with her favorite uncle Dorian for a time when he came back for a visit, but as a favor to her parents, First Enchanter Vivienne took her on as her apprentice. We can only speculate as to how that will go.
And finally, the twins! Adhlea and Himsulem. Their names mean, respectively, ‘light of dawn’ and ‘he who brings change’(nicknamed Lea and 'Lem, for convenience). They’re the only Qunlets to carry elven names, but Ari finally decided to embrace her heritage and give her descendants something to remember their elven lineage by. Adhlea, their second daughter, has Bull’s grey-green eyes and black hair. Himsulem, their youngest son, has black hair and dark blue eyes. They’re still quite young, but already have a reputation for mischief. Bull takes immense pride in his little spies in training, and though Ari doesn’t like it very much when they steal official letters from her desk and pretend-interrogate her on their contents, it’s adorable subterfuge(and they both love it).

My momma takes my best ones lol
I was thinking about Sataa(Bull and Mithari’s babey gorl) and now I have so many headcanons about her~
She’s absolutely the only one of the five who actually doesn’t make mischief. Always the cool, collected, level-headed one
The magic of the Anchor turned her skin, hair, and horns white. However, her eyes are bright green.
She’s definitely Bull’s favorite, though he’d never admit it(because papa Bull doesn’t pick favorites)
She’s a mage!!! Though, much like Teya, she fights with a staff using it both for magic and melee.
She’s the tallest and skinniest of all the Qunlets, and only slightly terrifying.
Her nicknames include Ta, Grumpy, and Sparks. You can probably guess where the last one came from.
Sataa was unanimously elected to care for ‘Lea and ‘Lem when they were born. They make a great team - the logical team leader and the two loose cannons.
Eventually, she enters into the service of Divine Victoria(or her auntie Leliana) as her personal bodyguard. She enjoys it a lot.
