Positive Comments about Savoir Faire

After my first watch of Savoir Faire I have to admit I was very negative.  The boatshed scene with Callen just really didn’t work for me, made me overly critical about the whole episode and it showed through in my comments and feelings about the episode.  The following Tuesday my radio station was talking about how to be a happier person, that you should write down 3 good things that happened to you every day before going to bed.  The reality is that I’m normally a pretty positive “glass more than half full” person, so I decided to apply that philosophy to this episode.  The rest of my week didn’t cooperate, so it wasn’t until this weekend that I was able to find enough snippets of time to actually watch the entire episode again paying close attention.  Below you will find the “positive” things I found about this episode:

Opening bullpen scene about who got shot is really great and a nice team bonding moment.  I went back and watched Personal and Deeks doesn’t say if he’s been shot before.  I do find it a bit surprising that nobody had been shot other than while working at NCIS LA, but it is a great call back that they referenced the times that we have seen them be shot.

A new bromance between Sam and Granger, Sanger or Gram?  The line about the joking face was really funny, possibly the 2nd funniest Granger line of the season.

We did laugh at my house when Sam told Callen they didn’t agree on clothes. I guess the fact that Sam likes a few buttons on his long sleeved solid colored shirt while Callen doesn’t like buttons on his long sleeved solid colored shirt is a really big difference in taste in clothing.

The whole scene at the tourist shop is great.  I loved the colors, we get competent Deeks even when he’s acting like he’s doing nothing and his interaction with the sales clerk is priceless. I always said he will flirt with anyone, and here he does and it works.

The partner swap was a nice touch, and Sam’s touché comment was really sweet between them.  Is it setting up that he knows about them, I think so.  I don’t think it was possible that none of his 4 family members saw them kiss.

The callback to pancakes was great.  Not only did he cook pancakes in Neighborhood Watch, but every fanfic since then has had Deeks cooking Kensi pancakes for breakfast when they spend the night together, whether they had sex or not.  I’m still waiting for the first fic to have him make her S’more cakes so we can find out if he adds crumbled up graham crackers or not.

Dominic Adams did a great job as Kamal.

Like I said at the top, I’m still confused why Callen was so grumpy about being partnered with Deeks and slammed the door on him. I’m hoping this is foreshadowing of something still to come, and then it will make sense.  S6 has been a really good overall season, so this one still will rank toward the bottom. However, it is better than many in S5 and one of JLJ’s best as the primary writer.
