day 5: blood-red.
i chose to go for some chainshipping today!!
Personally, I don't believe John told Amanda anything about the traps in Saw II. I feel like he sent her in blind, not knowing about traps like the needle pit or that Daniel was actually Eric's son. Her seeming so in disbelief about the confession, realizing what John tasked her with. Realizing how much she loved John and how much he had betrayed her, how his traps weren't fixing her.
Her reactions in the house seemed so distressed. Frantic over one of the survivors, genuinely anguished when she was in the needle pit, finally frightened and nearly hysterical when they have to kill Xavier.
I do believe Amanda was genuinely tested in that movie and part of why she failed as an apprentice. That movie broke something in her that couldn't be repaired.
@sawlentines2025 day four: confession
One aspect of Amanda's character that doesn't get explored enough is Amanda's jealousy and the heartbreak she feels in Saw III because of her love for John.
She loved John so much and it clearly hurt her that she couldn't be the one to give him what he needed. Her angrily naming what treatment they might try was a perfect example of it.
She'd likely tried everything she could to help John by herself and Lynn was a tangible reminder that she hadn't been good enough. John had taken care of her, he'd saved her. And when she had the opportunity to take care of him too, she couldn't do it. He had to have someone else, some person who didn't even love him, help him. She had to watch as Lynn helped John and as John praised/protected her.
Even when Amanda was helping out, it was another reminder that she couldn't handle it like Lynn could. She was too emotional, completely overwhelmed by it all. Yet, Lynn could stay calm and collected. When John's condition was worsening, she had to look to Lynn for support and her line of, "what's happening to him?"
It likely made her feel guilty that she couldn't handle this for John. Right up until the end, Amanda felt like she wasn't good enough.
Through the whole movie, she cycled between lashing out at Lynn and breaking down. The whole movie culminating in Amanda claiming she doesn't mean anything to John. In her very last moments, John is reaching towards her. And she's being reminded that despite how much he looked out for her, she still failed him.
