Today is #worldmentalhealthday. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression. I remember having my first panic attack when I was a sophomore in high school. I was sitting in drivers‘ ed and thinking, “this is going to be so sad for my parents. I’ll probably be the youngest person to ever die from a heart attack.” I was gripping my desk trying to look normal. It passed but I never forgot it. My anxiety focuses on illness and worrying about my children. #healthanxiety drives me and those around me crazy because it is so hard to turn off the negative thoughts. I’m much better now but almost once a month I’ll get a little trigger that starts me down the path of worst case scenario thinking. Part of what helps me is my work. Crocheting can be meditative and it definitely helps with self esteem and confidence when you can make things with your hands. If you’re struggling, know you are not alone. We are all out here just fighting the same fight and doing our best. If you are not struggling, please reach out to those around you that may be. Not with a solution, not with an invitation, but just to say you are there. I didn’t want to leave the house when I was in a bad place.
