The dim look in Narin’s eyes, so constantly present the past few months, dulling the eyes that used to dance with so much light and mischief, had finally started to fade. The faint spark was there, slowly building, it would take time and nurturing, but it was back. “Hey.” He half smiles as he glances at Ton as he settles next to him, placing the glasses on the table in front of them.
Ton half smiles back at him. “Hey yourself. Welcome back to life.” He regrets it as soon as the words leave his mouth. He didn’t want to say or do anything that might cause a reminder or dim the light.
Instead Narin just chuckles low and only a bit bitter. “ ‘Back to life’? That’s a good way to describe this feeling.” He’s quiet for only milliseconds before he turns and lunges forward to wrap his arms around his brother in a tight hug. “Thank you Ton.” His voice is quiet and shaky but finally it sounds like him again. “Thank you for taking me to see them.”

Burkowitz: Vampires tend to care for their own. They ain't much on Southern Hospitality. Leona: So you've never killed one? Burkowitz: Ha, no. I have a good relationship with most Convenes around here. All in-fighting tends to be a very personal matter to them. Leona: Most Convenes? Burkowitz: Yeah. There's one in Louisiana with the cover of a leper colony that don't count me as a friend. Leona: How'd that come to pass? Burkowitz: My predecessor was what many would call an asshole. I've been doing my best to make amends for his actions. But things that are long lived have a unique ability to hold a grudge. [Who wants more?]
