i have been so excited to make this post cuz i've been nerding out about fragrances a LOT lately and i've rly just wanted an excuse to yap about it, SO this is everything that i know currently about fragrance…💬🎀
THE STRUCTURE OF FRAGRANCE ;
ok so before we start layering lets understand the STRUCTURE of fragrance. its important to know the structure of a fragrance so that if u want to create ur own scent, you can reference the information. ALSO super helpful if ur into combining scents and layering them like i am. so a fragrance is composed three layers (notes) theres the
top note : initial scents when u first apply or smell a fragrance
middle (heart) notes : these notes emerge once the top notes dissipate (typically lasting 15 minutes-60 minutes) this is the CORE of the fragrance and last for several hours
base notes : the finale, finishing scents and they linger the longest. this is what gives ur fragrances RICHNESS, essentially the backbone of the fragrance
HOW TO LAYER ;
so to layer ur fragrances begin by applying the most dominant scent. typically the stronger scents have strong base notes. then layer with lighter scents. the lighter scents have more prominent top and middle notes.
a little goes a long way with layering. i usually wear lots of perfume but when layering i hold back a bit cuz im already adding lots of fragrances so i dont need to do too much yk?…💬🎀
to create a more subtle blend apply the lighter fragrances onto different pulse points OR simply apply the lighter scents directly over the heavier ones
remember to experiment with different fragrances and adjust to ur liking. thats the FUN PART. making up ur own combos and ur own unique scents is so so much fun. its a personal process. take notes in ur doll handbook on how the scents evolve over time and how they interact with ur skin specifically.
THE POWER OF A NEUTRAL BASE ;
a neutral base is like the FOUNDATION upon which other fragrances are built. it helps ur scents to not clash together and all together keep u from smelling a mess. it keeps everything more balanced so once ur out of the shower make sure to moisturize with something unscented.
another thing on moisturizing UR SCENT ISNT GONNA LAST IF U HAVE DRY ASS SKIN so make sure to moisturize and make sure that ur skin is hydrated before u apply anything…💬🎀
HOW TO MAKE SCENTS LAST LONGER ;
♡ use some aquaphor/vaseline on ur skin wherever ur gonna put ur perfume (a little goes a long way)
♡ dont forget to apply ur scents on ur legs + behind ur neck cuz scent travels UP so when u walk by your scent will follow you
cassie doesn't seem like a regular makeup girl , but she swears by under eye balm <3 lots of sleepy, calming scents because her routine is mainly at night.
baran uses more dominant, warm scents. ysl opium has been her favourite perfume for over a decade, and she layers it with vanilla instead of floral scents.
An aesthetic picture I took of my "bunny" layering combo set that I wore a LOT this spring. It's very playful and spring time vibes, even as someone who usually doesn't rigidly put scents into seasonal categories.
Body lotion: Carrot Charm by Bath and Bodyworks. Notes of carrot, nectarine, and sugared musk. If you want it right now, grab it as the Semi-Annual Sale means this baby is dirt cheap ($4 on my end as I type this) and it wasn't a popular scent so I doubt it'll come back.
Hand soap: Dandelion by Mrs. Meyer's. Smells like dandelions. I love this soap brand a lot. Leaves my hands really soft and so many of their scents are just amaaaaaazing.
Deodorant: Lavender Fresh by Dove. Smells like lavender and vanilla. Personally I don't actually approve of Dove all that much for their history, but they're currently the only brand that seems to help with my stanky testosterone armpits and they still have aluminum in their products in a market that wants to get rid of it so. I'm kinda stuck here. At least it smells nice?
Perfume: Honey Bunny by d.grayi. The notes are carrot, chrysanthemum tea, Holland Lop fluff, honey, osmanthus, hay, propolis, and beeswax. I love this perfume and brand a lot, they've got such unique and wonderful perfumes. This to me smells like dreams of my childhood rabbit. Her name was Einstein, we would call her Einie, a giant white and grey lop ear and she would snuggle if you got out her favorite blanket.
literally EVERY strawberry poundcake scent from bath and body works. the strawberry poundcake body mist, shower gel and body cream
the body fantasies cupcake swirl. it smells so warm and it lowkey smells like cinnamon. i get so many compliments when i wear this and its not expensive at all + the scent lasts so long
HOT TIP ; use the body fantasies cupcake girl and strawberry poundcake body mist together if u wanna smell like a pink frosted cupcake…💬🎀
ogx coconut coffee body wash is super moisturizing and it smells so good. i especially love how the scent clings to ur skin.
vanilla cashmere eos body lotion
pink sugar body spray (super duper sickeningly sweet, in a good way)
today i layered lush "lust" solid perfume and "shade" eau de toilette n idk how else to describe this but its very dark and wet... taking notes to combine again
