I present the idea of detatched , avoidant attachment, closed off cassie mckay Γ obsessive , hypervigilant , anxious attachment baran al-hashimi (who both have terrible coping mechanisms and are way too unhealthy for each other , but they continue to see each other...)
Hello, dana+cass cgs anon here!! the little piece you wrote was so sweet ahhh I loved it :3
Would you ever consider doing a short follow up after they got home getting their baby inside and ready for bed, and through as much of her routine they can manage when she's so tiny n sleepy???
Hello lovely anon !! Thank you for your request hehe , I love writing these πππ¦π
Little!Baran Al-hashimi + Cg!Dana Evans and Cg!Cassie Mckay ficlet (part two) π
"I'm not being the one to wake her!" Cassie whispered loudly, turning in her seat to look at Baran, who was sound asleep in the back of the car.
"I've played my role of mean mom today." Dana kept her voice soft as she smirked at Cassie, swiftly climbing out of the car before the other woman could protest.
Cassie huffed, muttering to herself as she got out of the passenger seat and walked round to where Baran was in the back. When she opened the door, the younger woman didn't stir, just falling against Cassie as her blanket fell from her hand.
After much struggling and readjusting, Cassie managed to carry Baran into the house, putting her down on the couch only to flip Dana off, who had started working on dinner. Baran was slowly starting to come round, rubbing the heel of her hand over her eye and walking clumsily into the kitchen, clinging to Dana's waist as she sat back in the floor.
"I know you're tired, honey." Dana soothed softly, running her hand across the woman's head, relishing in the fact that she knew Cassie was watching from her place on the couch. Baran rubbed her face against the soft fleece of Dana's jacket, watching quietly as her caregiver went about boiling water and stirring pasta. She was about to doze off again, until she felt Cassie's strong arms around her, lifting her from the floor and guiding her towards the bedroom. Usually she'd have a shower straight after work, but it had been such an unpredictable, exhausting day already, and all of her limbs felt heavy and uncoordinated. Baran was near certain that she'd fall asleep where she stood if she got under that warm water, so instead she settled against Cassie's legs as she used water from the sink to wash her hair, before changing into her pyjamas.
"There's my girl." Dana beamed, holding her arms out as Baran tiptoed out the bedroom and back into the kitchen, where three bowls of tomato penne lay on the table. She fell into Dana's arms, letting herself breath in her warmth for a moment as she was swayed gently. "Feeling better now you're all cozy?"
Baran nodded weakly, not letting go of Dana's sleeve as they sat at the table to eat. Cassie led most of the conversation, talking to Dana about whatever patient she'd been stuck with all day. Their discussions faded in and out of Baran's focus, who was too tired to pay attention properly, her thoughts drifting off someplace else as she ate her dinner like it was routine. She could hardly feel the food on her tongue as she finished it off, and if it wasn't for Cassie reaching over and stroking her arm to ground her back into reality, she could've sat there for hours.
"We can skip watching anything on TV tonight, hmm? You wanna just go to bed?"
Baran made a noise of protest, but was too tired to put up much of a fight, and it's obvious that her fatigue was manifesting physically. She almost collapsed as she shakily followed Cassie into the small bathroom, opting to sit with her back against the tub as she brushed her teeth. Dana positioned herself next to her, braiding her drying hair into two loose plaits and helping fill up her beaker with water to take her night meds.
"Good girl." Dana hummed softly as Baran swallowed the last of her pills, pressing a kiss to her temple. Cassie hovered in the doorway, smiling softly as she watched Baran slowly climb to her feet, and wave goodnight to Dana.
"Do you want your story? Or do you just want to sleep?" Cassie said quietly, turning off the main light and switching on the bedside lamp. Baran's face lit up at the idea, nodding happily as Cassie settled in bed beside her, grabbing the old copy of Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell from the end table.
"Ahem. Twilight Sparkle didnβt think it was possible, but the Crystal Empire looked even more beautiful than the last time sheβd been there. The winding, cobble-gem streets and tall spires sparkled and glistened in the sunshine-"
"- You need to do the actions!" Baran chimed in, the first time she'd spoken since their shift ended. Cassie smirked, taking the plush pony from Baran's hold and making her act out the rest of the chapter. By the time Cassie had reached the end of the third page, Baran was fast asleep once more, her head nestled in the space between Cassie's arm and her pillow.

"You're a bad influence on her." Dana called out to Cassie, who'd just dashed across the road instead of waiting at the crosswalk.
Cassie just laughed, waving over at Dana and Baran as her partner shook her head.
"She's silly, your mama." Her voice softened as she looked over at Baran, who was chewing at the edge of her sleeves anxiously. Gently prying her fingers away from her mouth, Dana wrapped her arm around Baran's shoulders, brushing the loose curls from her face as the traffic lights turned red, and the little man indicated it was safe for them to cross.
"What took you so long, hmm?" Cassie smirked, narrowly avoiding Dana's fist trying to land a soft punch to her arm.
"We waited. Like you're supposed to."
Cassie laughed, but her smile faded quick as she noted the way Baran swayed on her feet, clinging to Dana's arm like she was going to blow away.
"Hey, hey, mama's just being silly. You did the safe thing waiting with mommy, yeah?" Cassie nodded, taking Baran from Dana's arm and pulling her against her chest. Baran took a shaky breath, inhaling the familiar scent of Mckay's shampoo as her hair tickled her face. She was exhausted, and if it wasn't for Dana prompting then to keep walking, Baran was sure she could fall asleep right there.
With her left hand clinging to Cassie's two fingers, Baran used her other hand to hold onto Dana, bobbing along in-between the two women as they walked towards the car that was parked on the other side of the park. She was too focused on watching her feet and trying to sync up her movements with Cassie's longer strides that she nearly tripped over herself, only narrowly caught by Dana's arm against her waist.
"Easy girly, I gotcha. You keep hold of mama's hand there, we're nearly at the car. You'll be in bed in no time."
Wordlessly, Baran nodded, her grip on Cassie's hand tightening. She was too exhausted to speak, her mind busy with the buzz of her last shift. Everything had been so loud and bright and chaotic, and if it wasn't for Dana's insistence that she takes a ten minute nap in the break room after lunch, she was certain she would've had another seizure by now.
"You wanna fly, honey?" Cassie says to Baran, trying to keep her grounded in their walk before her mind wanders elsewhere. It seemed to work, and Baran nodded enthusiastically, readjusting her grip on her caregivers hands. Dana counted down, before the two swung their arms up, lifting Baran with them as they did, before she settled back firmly on her feet in a flurry of giggles, hiding her face against Cassie.
"You liked that?" Cassie grinned down at her, pressing a kiss to Baran's temple, who just nodded into her side. The three did it a couple more times down the park path, until Dana had enough, and they reached their car that was parked to the far end of the parking lot.
"Here sweetheart. I know you're tired." Cassie cooed softly, lifting Baran onto her hip as Dana unlocked the car. Cassie sat her down in the back seat, kissing the top of Baran's head before sitting in the front with Dana. The sky had melted into a velvety black, and the contrast of the city lights outside was enough to make Baran hide her face in her blanket, that Dana always kept in the back seat.
"I think I'm ready for bed too." Cassie joked once they'd set off, turning around to look at Baran. But when she did, she bit her tongue, just watching as the smaller girl slept with her head against the window, her blanket pulled up to her chin, and her face peaceful for the first time all day.
this picture is so very special to me , she looks so tiny π₯Ήπ€ huggable little fawn
