The news just announced that a teacher from my old high school has been arrested, charged, and fired over “unlawful sexual intercourse” with a child 17 years ago when I and my friends were still at the school

and he’s been there ever since

Including when my little sister was there, when the kids I’ve looked after in youth programs were there, when friends became teachers and staff there

Please pray for the victim (or victims)

Please pray for anyone who has been through something like this to have the courage and safety to speak up quickly

17 years is 17 years too long

Those who talk about wishing they went to public school are talking about wishing they weren’t abused and isolated by their parents.

Childhood&adolescence socialization does not only exist in school. Your parents have purposefully isolated you from your peers not just by homeschooling you.

Protection from abuse must exist for every situation, and school would not have saved you from abuse. If it did, infinitely less of those who go/went to public school would be/have been also abused by their parents — as well as by their teachers (and other staff) and other students.

Systems of power are the problem, including, at the core, that of the family — and school is a system of power too.

And. There. Are. Always. Those. Who are too disabled for public school.

State representative pushes for ban on ‘seclusion rooms’ in schools

The I-Team found hundreds of students have been put in the structures as punishment this academic year.

It's insane to me that since I left school in this hellstate this practice (solitary confinement in schools) has been formalized to such a degree that there are literal padded cells in school buildings in this state now. Like my PTSD is in part from being subjected to solitary confinement in an office with a desk and chair and work to do, I can't imagine how much worse it would've been for me to be forced into a closet-sized padded cell during those periods.

Anyway if you think American schools are anything but carcecal you need to like, open your human eyes and look at things.

Growing up is realizing that your teachers did a lot of very shitty things. Like looking back at my first few years after elementary school no wonder I hated school so much, on top of struggling with grades I had some borderline abusive teachers. I don't know how often they singled me out by emptying my backpack in front of the class, degrading me for struggling with music and scales, letting everyone know I got in trouble for being bad at school. I had to walk up to my teachers at the end of each period and they had to sign that I wrote down all my homework for everyone to see. Plus I was forced to stay after school for "homework assistance" I didn't need. And they made sure everyone knew. This is the kind of shit that makes your classmates bully you.

But eventually we moved and I switched schools and it didn't take long for me to get good grades again and start actually somewhat liking school.

"don't let it affect you because if you do then they've won" is bullshit victim blaming and i'm so tired of my mother throwing it at me whenever i reveal that i'm still angry about what happened to me at school.

i was systematically verbally, mentally and physically abused by my peers at school for 11 years and i'm allowed to be fucking angry about it. it's not them winning. i'm traumatised and mentally ill and they played a part in making me this way. fuck you.

I have issues in school and get triggered by school and schoolwork because

neurotypical ppl are so against ADHD kids getting any kind of education that requires any effort from the educator’s part

we have to work twice as hard to “earn” the same baseline education that neurotypical kids are automatically given, without question.

My teacher used me as an example in a maths problem comparing weights when I was 12. She took me up to the front of the class and asked me what my weight was. I said I didn't know. She made me stand on a scale then said, "Wow that's more than me!" And then she brought a thin person up and she taught us ratios and percentage comparisons. So the whole class knew I was 241% heavier than the other student. The whole thing made me very upset, even now when I'm in my 20's.

That’s really awful. She shouldn’t have done that. I’m so sorry this happened to you.
